Brian's Story
Greetings!
My wife Linda and I and our family are doing well. Life has been interesting, and sometimes a little too exciting.
I served an LDS mission in Austria (Vienna) from 1977-1979, then graduated from U. of Fla. in '84 and got a regular commission in the Air Force. Since then, we've lived in Europe (Germany), New York, Texas (Wichita Falls, San Angelo, and El Paso), D.C., Florida (Miami, Orlando, and Tampa), Nebraska, and Georgia. I've also worked in many countries in the Middle East/Persian Gulf region, Eastern Africa, and South Central Asia. I was called back into the military right after 9/11 and have been there since; we will stay this time until I retire from active duty (just 3 more years). ====== UPDATE (as of 09/28/2022): Retired as an active duty Air Force Colonel in May 2014, worked in a civil service job (VA HQ) in Washington, DC until 2021, then retired from that too, and we moved to Knoxville, TN. Linda and I are retired but do some day trading (futures, usually on the NASDAQ) to supplement our income, and we're getting better; about 85% positive trades most weeks. We have good friends and family who have been good trading teachers. It's all about being able to read the candles, trend lines, and charts in general. (End of update)
Some of our more unusual experiences include tearing down the Berlin Wall in '89, and Linda giving birth in a German hospital while I translated for both her and the doctors. We were hit dead-on by Hurricane Andrew at Homestead AFB in '92, and were hit head-on by a drunk driver in Tampa in '98. We have benefited from miracles several times, and we owe the Lord everything we have. I've worked some really interesting missions and projects, both i...Expand for more
n and out of the military. Most of it has meant insane hours, and excessive travel. My family has been very supportive of my career and have learned to face trials without me (Murphy's Law is in force). All the tough challenges and maintenance problems around the house seem to happen while I am between 8 and 11 time zones away.
Life has often moved pretty fast for us; as a whole, too fast. I'd bet the same is true of yours. Linda and I still have our sense of humor intact, and that must count for some degree of success, eh?
We as a family have much to be thankful for. We were blessed not to have lost anyone in the head-on crash in '98. Two of our sons got a helicopter ride to Tampa General Hospital out of the wreck, but they were flat on their backs and don't remember any of it. Linda and one of our sons needed emergency trauma surgery and Linda was in Intensive Care. Our unborn daughter was given only a one percent chance of survival after the wreck. She is now healthy, normal, and doing fine, and everyone has recovered. God has been kind to us as a family, and to me on my assignments, as numerous disasters have been narrowly averted. The credit for those invisible "guardrails" that have often preserved us as a family and as individuals must surely go to the Lord. I'll bet you can see them in your life, too, when you look for them.
We try to have fun, and we have lots of goals. We stay busy in church, too. I want to hear how things are going for you. If we have been out of touch for a long time, that is even more reason for you to drop me an email. I can pretty well guarantee you that if you can remember me, I will remember you.
Email and let's chat!
Cheers,
Brian, Linda, and Crew
