Brian's Story
Life
Right now..things are just great. My life over the last ten years has been quite a ride. I have been working at National Public Radio (NPR) in Washington DC as a audio/recording engineer since August 1998. It was here that I met my wife, and we got married in July of 2000. My son, Alexander was born in March, 2004. During all that time, in addition to work, I have been busy with writing, recording, and performing music. I have been playing guitar since the age of 15, and haven't stopped since. With the purchase of my first home, i have now been able to build a little personal studio at home to record my own tunes. In the meantime, I also perform and record with other bands and musicians. Have been pretty busy with that, as well, and I love it
Workplace
After college, I worked a total of 4 jobs..at once. I was working for three radio stations, and an after-school day care facility. My main gig was working for my college radio station as their full-time morning drive person. I did that for a...Expand for more
lmost 3 years. I also worked at the local NPR affiliate in Baltimore (WJHU..now WYPR) and local talk station WCBM on the weekends. And for even more extra cash I worked with K-5 graders in a three hour after school program at the elementary school in my neighborhood. Working with the kids was a nice change from being around radio people once in a while. In between all that chaos, somehow I managed to still practice guitar and play in two bands around town..almost every weekend.
It was in the summer of 1997 I realized I was burning the candle at too many ends, and was time to get a serious job. So I applied to someplace I had been dreaming of working, and that place was NPR. I got the job as an audio engineer, subsequently moved away from Baltimore to the DC area, and have been living down here ever since. Lived in Bethesda, MD (1 year) to start, then moved to Arlington, VA (2years) then to Alexandria, VA (5 years), and now currently living in my house in Cheverly, MD with my wife, son, and puppy dog.
