Brian's Story
After graduating, two of our high school mates and I started working for an industrial inspection company. That sent me working around Alberta and Saskatchewan on new plant constructions, pipelines, operating plants and refineries. Met a girl from Londonderry in a St Albert pub in 1983 (who I eventually married). I ended up being sent up to the Suncor oil sands refinery to conduct a few weeks of ultrasonic testing on in-service pressure equipment and loved the work and knowledge building opportunity. s hired by Suncor, became an in-service pressure equipment and fabrication Inspector then over the years sticking around long enough to end up leading the pressure and process equipment integrity management team of Inspectors and Mechanical Engineers for 12 years, with a grand total of 36 years in the industry. My wife and I have two children that are grown adults now and building their lives in the Edmonton area. We have one grandchild so far. In 2011 Suncor transferred me to live in the Edmonton area where we bought a home in the country near Sherwood Park. In 2018 I retired. I still love old cars, having restarted my keenness to restore classics so I putter in my shop allot.
