Brian's Story
My story so far...
After graduating in 1975, I continued working at the Shell gas station across from the library on San Antonio Road and Main Street. I eventually quit when my college studies required much more time. I attended Foothill College for 2 years, completing basic requirements for majoring in Geology (Foothill had a couple of really good Geology profs at the time). I also participated in the Foothill Jazz Band, playing alto sax and oboe; this was the last time I played for an audience. We toured up the west coast and into British Columbia.
I entered U.C. Davis in Fall, 1977 as a transfer student majoring in Geology, graduating with a B.S. in 1979. I met Clare there...Expand for more
, and we were later married in 1980, while attending UCLA. After obtaining a Ph.D. in Geochemistry in 1984, I took a job at the U.S. Geological Survey in Denver.
At the USGS, I managed a geochemistry and geochronology lab. My work has taken me to Japan, Australia, England, Germany, Uganda, Switzerland, and Brazil as well as many different parts of the US and Canada. In 2019, I retired from the USGS after 35 years and started my own consulting business. Clare and I, now empty-nesters, travel quite a bit; we try to spend a week in the Caribbean every winter to escape the weather in Colorado.
