Brian's Story
Life
I'm still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. I got a degree in journalism and worked at two dead-end newspaper jobs, and now I may or may not have found a new direction.
School
I did everything I could in high school. Now that I look back on it, I wonder how I found the time to make it through.
College
Life at MCCC in Blytheville was challenging after a busy high school career. There were no clubs or activities to join. Arkansas State University in Jonesboro was different though.
I played Rugby for the first time, but old injuries combined with new ankle injuries to take me out of the sport before my first game. I missed being on the field...Expand for more
so much I even tried cheer leading. An old shoulder injury flared up during practice the day before tryouts though, and I gave up on the sporting world. (cheer leading is not a sport, but I would have been there with the sports).
Then I joined the school paper (where I quickly worked my way up to editor) several news organizations, and the Tau Kappa Epsilon social fraternity. Life was busy again, and it was great... even during the period of three months where I averaged four hours sleep per night.
Workplace
I started at the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility (jail) in 2005. I was promoted to sergeant in Sept. 2008, and I'm trying to see where this leads.
