2003 Third child and first son: Spencer Hyrum, born January 21.

My children are:
Chessa - Junior, 17
Lindsey - Freshman, 14
Spencer - First grade, 7
We moved to Washington three years ago to be close to Rochelle's parents. They are still in good health, but it just seemed like the right thing to do at the time, and we are glad we made the move for several reasons. The kids are thriving, I love my job, we love being close to my wonderful in-laws, the kids get to experience a little taste of ¿country¿ living, and when I left Utah I was starting a journey out of the LDS church, which would have been a much harder thing to do while living in Utah. I am happier now than ever before in my life. My family and I have found a great Christian church where we feel at home. I am blessed to have two girls that are doing very well at making it through the teenage years. I really love my children. My son is a complete joy. He is at a magical age. He is half angel and half Calvin (from Calvin and Hobbes). I am blessed to have a sweet wife. We are in love and really enjoy each others' company. Our 20th anniversary is 11/26/09. My in-laws live one hour away and are kind, honest, hard-working people, and I love them as if I were their son. My father-in-law was born in 1929 in Kansas to a poor farming family and came to Washington during the "dust bowl" of the 1930's. He didn't get hi...Expand for more
s first pair of shoes until he was 5. He has always worked so hard for everything he has, and I am thrilled have my kids rub shoulders with him and experience his great attitude, hard work ethic, wisdom and laid-back personality. He has an infectious laugh, and he tells stories to my kids about his life that teach them great lessons. My mother-in-law is an angel. I am so happy to be building a separate living area on our new house and have them next to us soon. I wish I could also be closer to my parents in Needles. They spend winters in Needles and summers camping in Utah.
College
1986-1987 Rick College, Rexburg, Idaho. Met my sweetheart and future wife.
1987-1989 missionary in Japan for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Made many dear friends; loved the people, country and food; stuck out like a sore thumb.
1992 Graduated from BYU with a degree in Zoology. Began medical school at the University of Utah.
1996 Graduated from medical school in May.
1996-2001 Internship and pathology residency at the University of Utah Medical Center and associated hospitals.
Workplace
I am a pathologist, but not a forensic pathologist like on the TV show Crime Scene Investigators (CSI). I am primarily a surgical pathologist, which is someone who examines things under a microscope. I basically provide diagnostic information to other physicians that they use to treat patients. About 60% of my time is spent in an office behind a microscope. I work at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, WA. It was originally built by the government to provide healthcare for workers on the Hanford Nuclear Site where the plutonium was made for the two nuclear bombs dropped on Japan to end WWII. It is now a private hospital and a great place to work.
