Brian's Story

Went to school at NYCA 71/72--72/73........Coming to NYC as a teenager was quite a thing for this country boy. It was a tremendous time for me though. Enjoyed my time at NYCA.....made a lot of friends. Unfortunately, I did not keep up with those friendships....which I do regret. I have been periodically looking for those old friends.....and lo and behold I found this site. I left NYCA in the summer of 73, my family moved back to Indiana and I finished my last year of high school here in Nappanee. After high school, worked in factories for 11 yrs, then got into healthcare working as a Certified Nursing Assistant in a Nursing Home. I have to laugh at this from time to time, because, one time at school we were having a party or something....and Mr. Congdon had us tell what we would most unlikely become....and Mr. Congdon laughingly said Brian wouldn't fit the medical field because I couldn't stand the sight of blood. Ha..... I've worked primarily in Nursing Homes, but spent one year working in a Hospital and one year in a Mental Health facility. My calling it seems is working with the elderly. I married in 1977, separated in 2001, then divorced..........I have been with Diana since 2002.....have a 16 yr old son and a 13 yr old daughter. In 2006 I helped move a friend back to Trenton NJ...........so I drove the hour and spent a few hrs driving around and showing my son Ground Zero....World Trade Center.....it was in the middle of the night.....I parked ...Expand for more
near the sight so we could look....and someone yelled from an apartment..."you can't park there",,,,so I found a more appropriate place to park.....as we walked around......of course...he had to go pee......OH BOY....so I found an Officer, and he reluctantly unlocked a bathroom in the World Trade Center.....ha...what memories!!!! I don't remember the year, but my wife then and I went to Florida and went back through the East Coast.....stopped in NC to see Ralph and Barbara Congdon. Really enjoyed our time with them......then somewhere around 2000, I got a letter from Mr. Congdon telling of Barbara's passing. Haven't heard from him since, but do think of him. I think of NYCA and all it meant to me from time to time.......and think of many of you who also went there. I am only too glad to have found this site, and hopefully reconnect with some of my old friends.......UPDATE: it is August 17,2023.....still in Nappanee Indiana...Diana and I are now caring for my 89 year old parents, and my 8 year old grandson Alex. I think of my friends in NYC.....Yes Dominick, you and Marc Galloway and Richard Finerty.....there are more, but can't name all of you here. If I ever get back to the city, I'm going to make every effort to look a few of you up....although, some, maybe many, may not be there now.......I would love to talk to some of you. If you care to, send me a note on this format, or Facebook, or even the old fashioned way, at 505 Short Street. Greetings
