Brian's Story

Life In 2003, I got married to a wonderful woman named Holli. We decided to both change our names to "Shiro" as a way of combining our hertigages. She comes from a Japanese family, and my name is "White", so we adopted "Shiro", which is the Japanese word for white. We're expecting our first baby in late November or early December 2007. I'm still running a lot, although not as much as I did during college. The first and (so-far) last marathons I've run were the Chicago Marathon in 1997 and Honolulu Marathon in 2006. Both times I placed in my division. I also enjoy hiking, biking, backpacking, skiing, and kayking. School My favorite teachers at ASMS were probably Turkel and Lyublinskaya, although they were all great. The pickings were a little slimmer at GCT, but it had some great teachers too: Woodside and Drake. To ASMS people: Joanna Reuter and I continued to maintain a Class of 1996 contact database until around 2003 when the ASMS Alumni Association was re-established. Everything we had was imported into that database, and you can now make changes to your information from their website. College I went to Northwestern University where I graduated in 2000 with BA's in Integrated Science, Geology, and Physics. I lived in the Lindgren Residential College of Science and Engineering during 3 of my 4 years on college. After that, I went to Washington University in St. Loius as graduate student studying seismology in the Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences. During grad school, I was fortunate enough to do field work all over the world in Fiji, Ton...Expand for more

In 2007, I started working on a masters degree in Space Studies through the University of North Dakota's online program.
