Brigid K.'s Story
Life
I attended St. Paul's for kindergarten, the Campus school for eight years, Bishop Cunningham High School for four years, and two years of college at Oswego.
While in college I met my oldest son's father (who is a very nice person), however it didn't work out and I moved on.
At 19 I lived in Buffalo for a while then moved to Brooklyn, where I worked and met my ex-husband.
I moved around a lot and then finally settled down in a cozy home in Staten Island.
I have 3 children now, and they are the most amazingly wonderful people I know.
I have been an active part of their lives and am ever so proud of them.
I have a full-time position now in a public elementary school. I advocate for parents I spent the last 20 years of my life volunteering with in the schools. I find working with the parents and their children very rewarding and can't imagine doing anything else.
One day I do hope to complete the education that I put on hold so many years ago, but for now I am content where I am.
I do regret not attending the reunions of the past, and am so glad that I attended the 30th. I had so much fun catching up with everyone. I ended up finding out so many things. As a result of attending, I found someone I never would have dreamed I had so much in common with...Yes you Jamie. I hope in the future I will get to see some more people who gave me such fond memories.
College
I wish that I had the money to finish college when I first started. As the years have passed I have found that I have aquired volumes of expierence and knowledge, however that little piece of paper means a lot when it comes to salaries.
I really didn't expect to go to c...Expand for more
ollege and end up with a child instead of a degree, however I have found a way to use the hard lessons in life that I have learned to try to help others not to make similar decisions. If they do, to pick up the pieces of their lives and make something of themselves in spite of it.(And my son has been one of my greatest joys in my life, along with his brother and sister.) I don't see how I could have been as effective as I've been working as a Parent Coordinator or a Family Assistant had I not been through all of the adventures life has thrown in my path. I couldn't possibly love my children more and am grateful for every day I have/had with them.
College was not a complete waste for me,I took classes that proved very useful over the years. I did meet my oldest son's father Without whom I would not have my oldest son,(Jonathan) one of the greatest gifts in my life.
I now have 2 other children who I love just as much.(Peter and Sara)
Workplace
Well let's see, I have done such a variety of things, I have cleaned houses, taken care of labratory animals, I have Worked in a bank, I have kept books for different stores, I have worked as a cashier, Cleaned peoples clothes,C.S. rep., Family asst., taught art classes to children, been a councilor to young children, and now I am a Parent Coordinator in an elementary school and teach art in an after school program. I have also held a second job for the last 5 years, as a sales associate in Victoria's Secret, then Ann Taylor and most recently, J.Jill.( I guess it helps me fulfill my lifelong dream about working in the fashion industry) I put everything into anything I involve myself in, 100%.
