Brigid's Story
I attended Adams State College in Alamosa, Co from 1985-1987. I transferred to Arizona State University in 1987 and graduated with a BS in Exercise Physiology in 1989. From there I worked in fitness in San Diego until 1991 when I went into the Navy as an Aviation Officer Candidate in Pensacola, FL. Things did not work out for me physically so I was medically separated and moved back to San Diego in 1993.
I worked in San Diego from January 1993 until July 1996 in Public Health working for Non-Profit agencies. I met Gregg at a bar (something I said I would never do!) in San Diego in August 1993. At the time we met, Gregg was a Drill Instructor at MCRD San Diego. We dated for three years. He got orders to Okinawa in August 1995 for one year. I went over there to visit him in late February 1996 for 12 days and on the last day he proposed on the way to the airport. We were married in July 1996 in Michigan.
We moved to Fort Leonard Wood, MO where we stayed until December 1998. I worked as a Manager of a retail phone center there and I also managed the Fitness Center on base for about 8 months.
We moved to New Orleans, LA where we were from January 1999 until July 2000. That is where I received my Masters Degree in Public Health from Tulane (I finished my last two classed in HI). I worked for about 6 months conducting interviews with HIV/AIDS patients on their medication adherence.
We then went ...Expand for more
to Kaneohe Bay, HI from July 2000 through July 2001. I found out the day I boarded the plane for HI that I was pregnant. The boys were born in January 2001, (6 weeks premature) in Hawaii.
Then the boys and I went to El Paso, TX from July - October 2001 and waited for base housing in Washington, DC where we were stationed next. We lived in Washington DC on Bolling AFB from November 2001 - May 2005. Gregg went to Iraq from March-Nov 2004 and earned a Bronze Star Medal for his work in training the Iraqi soldiers. Gregg has a background in course writing and curriculum development.
Gregg retired in May 2005 and was offered a job in Jacksonville, NC. Things did not work out with his job in NC so he then accepted a job with the FAA back in DC, and then one with the USMC at Quantico, VA. I was a stay at home mom from the time we left New Orleans until two weeks before the boys started Kindergarten in NC. I sold on eBay to supplement our income and earned over $1000 monthly.
I was working for the Onslow County School System in NC as a Family Specialist for the Headstart Preschool Program from 2006 - 2009. Basically I was a Family advocate (or social worker) for the enrolled students and their families.
Gregg accepted a job in November 2008 at Kings Bay, GA as Director of Academics for the Base so we are now in Kingsland, GA. I work part time selling things on eBay and as a substitute teacher.
