Wow. . .what a ride! I finally retired from the US Navy in May of 2004. No more trips to the Middle East if I can help it. . .well if something comes up in Dubai, UAE, I may go there. More than half my life was spent in the canoe club!
I'm working for a company based out of New Orleans that commissions deepwater off-shore oil rigs. I am a mechanical engineer. I travel quite extensively for them as there really aren't that many places in the world that have the capabilities to custom manufacture off-shore oil platforms. Incredibly interesting work. I've spent most of this year (2005) working on the world's largest off-shore rig located in the Gulf of Mexico. I'm currently working a project at Samsumg Heavy Industries in Ok-po, South Korea. This project should consume most of 2006 and take me from Korea to Houston to Corpus Christi to Equatorial Guinea. I'm living the life of an ex-pat for the next 12 or so months. . . I'll try to keep this up to date.

ll-deserved month off. Hopefully the weather will allow me to work with a landscape contractor for my front yard. My son will get his drivers license. . .did we really drive when we were that young???
Mar 06. Well so much for a month off. The company has lost 2 senior P.E.'s. One to a drug test. . .50 Y/O guy got popped for weed. The other quit to go to Khazakstan to work a pipeline, sooo I've been promoted and have to head back oout to the Thunderhorse. Such a deal. Nice raise though.
July 06 We've survived a year since the incline incident of Hurricane Dennis. Ballast systems are signed off by the Coast Gaurd and ABS. The rig personnel now have to do their own ballast problems. Firewater and Seawater systems are woefully underdesigned. Having to spend a ton of money and time repairing equipment that in underspec'd for it service. Gotta love it. I'm beginning to hate consultants.. . If you can't be part of the solution, there's great money in prolonging the problem! Enought about work. Hope everyone who goes to the 30th reunion has fun
