Bruce W's Story

I was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, then moved to my present home in the Denver, Colorado area in 1982, where I still live with my wife Margee. We got married in a big Scottish wedding in 1987. 1st marriage for both of us! I went to Ensign Elementary in the Avenues, Bryant Jr High and East High School (1967). I then went to Utah Technical College where I earned an A.A.S. Degree in Electronics Technology in 1980. I was drafted into the Army, Dec 1968 with service in Viet Nam from 1969 to 1970, with the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), C Battery, 2nd/19th Artillery. I was in Nam for 13 months and luckily came back physically unscathed - not to sure about mentally! I won several awards and medals, including the Army Commendation, 2 Air Medals, an Air Assault Badge and the Bronze Star with 'V' device. I wasn't a real good boy, so I didn't get a good conduct medal. I wasn't real excited to be there!! :) I've been a member of the Clan MacLeod Society since 1984 (my dad's mum was a McLeod), and I've held offices as Colorado State Commissioner and Southwest Regional Vice President. I wear the kilt proudly!! Being one of the organizers, officer and a founding member of the Colorado Youth Pipe Band, I was awarded the first Honorary Lifetime Membership of the band and got a plaque commemorating this achievement. I started to work for a large Telecommunications company (TCI), while I was going to school in 1978, as an associate engineer (and other positions) until a layoff in 1993. After that, my wife & I owned and ran a retail store for a numb...Expand for more
er of years dealing in Scottish imports. I loves working with children and the handicapped community. Since the beginning of 2000, until 2010 I worked for RTD access-a-Ride, which provides transportation services for the disabled throughout the Denver metro area. In addition to these jobs, I also worked a number of different jobs including truck driving, chain link fence installer, etc,. I never did decide what I wanted to do when I grew up, until The Santa Gig came up. In 2004 I became a Professional Santa Claus. I read stories and assist with caroling at parties, etc. Margee joined me on a full time basis in the 2007 Season (she says that I was having WAY to much fun without her!. We work as a Team and supplement our income and have a fantastic time. We also do some charity events as well. After 17 years of Clausing, we retired in 2021. We're missing it tremendously! I don't think that I ever grew up and my sense of humor, enthusiasm and love of life hasn't left me. Unfortunately, I have had some serious medical problems since about the year 2000. I contracted Hepatitis C from our high school and beyond days and it rose it's ugly head in about 2009. I had to have a liver transplant in 2011 and I'm basically doing OK, but have a few side effects and that didn't get rid of the HCV. As of Sept 2013 I'm now on an experimental study to get rid of it before it ruins my new liver! We'll make it!!!!! Yipee! It cured my HepC! After about 5 weeks, my viral load was very low and they declared me cured! One of my favorite quotes is: "Think, then Act.".
