Bruce's Story

Life After barely graduating in 1963, I went to work in Aerospace at Litten Industries in Beverly Hills and began taking night classes at Long Beach City College. I left Litton and got another job at TRW Systems in Redondo Beach in 1966 . I Met Ruth Coffland (PHS class of 1967) in 1969. We were married in 1970. At that time we were both attending California State University Long Beach. We both graduated in 1972, Ruth received her B.A. degree in Geography and mine was a B.S. degree in Business Administration. with a major in Management. It took me 9 years part time to earn that degree. She became a teacher at Capt. Raymond Collins School and I went to work for Northrop Corp. in Century City at their Corporate office as a Buyer..( In my teens I had a girlfriend named Anne who also became a teacher at the same school that Ruth taught at. I always knew teachers would be a great life companion !!!) After several years, we decided to go into business for ourselves. We opened a State Farm Agency in 1975. We are licensed by California and have a contract with State Farm to offer only their approved products. Sort of like a Franchise. We still own that Agency, after 44 years, located in La Habra, CA. . In 1976 and 1977, along came two beautiful children, James and Michelle. 49 years later, we are still married, have 1 granddaughter and 1 grandson. Life has been good to us. We cannot believe we have been so fortunate. The years slip by so quickly. "Turn...Expand for more
around and you're young, turn around and your old"- Hope all has gone well for all of you. I would love to here from you-----BRUCE 1/30/2018--I have been thinking about retirement for awhile now. I do a lot of thinking these days and those thoughts carry me back to the 50's and 60's---so long ago. Sometimes I want a "do over". I'd correct what I did wrong, enjoy what I did right. I would enjoy again the good times. I would hug and kiss more of the girls, smell more of the roses on life;s trail . I would go slower and savor more of those good times. Best wishes to you all-----BRUCE. 1/22/2019 My days thinking I would live forever are over. 2018 was a whirlwind of operations, hospitals and recuperations with as much pain as I could stand. I have developed arthritus everywhere, a knee replacement, , metastatiicprostate surgery, carpel tunnel surgery in both hands and tons of oxycodone and other pain killers and am just now turning a corner and healing finally!! God what a year. I know I am going to make it another few years but my youthful ignorance is now gone. These times are now filled with the beauty of children playing at the playground near our home,. Their laughter and squealing is a beautiful sound sailing on the breeze and is so pleasurable to hear.... Music, reading a good book, and enjoying each day are now my pastimes.. I have heard from several of you and am so happy that things are going well for them. Talk to you later......BRUCE
