Bruce's Story
In 1974, I moved to Washington, DC, and began work for the US Government. I first worked for NASA, at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. In 1978, I began work for the Smithsonian Institution, where I served as Director of Personnel for the National Air and Space Museum and for a number of other offices within the Smithsonian, including the Smithsonian's Tropical Research Facility in the Republic of Panama.
In 1984, I began serving as the Director of Personnel for the United States Information Agency's Radio Marti Program -- a broadcasting service from the United States to Cuba. In 2001, I began serving as the Ombudsman for the Voice of America in Washington, DC. My job was to serve as a Mediat...Expand for more
or in conflicts between employees and their supervisors.
I retired from the Government in June, 2006. I currently live in Arlington, VA. I volunteer my time for a number of activities, including my church (The National Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC). I also serve as a volunteer docent (tour guide) at the National Cathedral in Washington. I give both general tours of the Cathedral, and "speciality tours" -- including tours of the stained glass and of the gargoyles at the Cathedral. (If any of you plan a trip to DC, let me know!). I also serve as a Volunteer Lay Chaplain at a local hospital in Alexandria, VA, where I visit patients and family members, and provide spiritual support and comfort to them.
