BRUCE's Story

My dad was transferred to Maine during the summer of 1966 and in November I joined the navy and became a Hospital Corpsman. In 1969 I went to Vietnam where I served as a MEDEVAC Corpsman with the Marines during my tour. In 1970 I was discharged and subsequently went to Northeastern University where I attended their PA (Physician Assistant) program. During the following 40 years as a PA I worked in NC at a Job Corps Center, then went to work on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and theN in Private Practice, the Indian Health Service and in Clinical Research for the University of Washington. In 1986 I started a 28-year career with the Department of Veteran Affairs in Seattle where I worked in Surgical Research, then in Psychiatry and for my final 22 years in Neurosurgery. Along the way I went for a short time to Russia to work with Soviet Military Veterans who had served in Afghanistan, also to Sudan for govt. work. In 2001 I went to Rio as the team photographer...Expand for more
for the US Amputee Soccer team. Since 2002 I have also been the photographer on more than 30 Homeland Security and Disaster Preparedness events and have had my pictures provide not only to participating agencies but also to the White House. (For more infor about this side of my life please see my profile on LinkedIn. I am married, have two dogs and have six grown children and six grandchildren. I live in Freeland on Whidbey Island, Washington where I care for my property, am expanding my photography business, and am working on my third military history book. My first two books (LUMINOUS BASE and INTREPID SOULS) are both on Amazon. When I left Bermuda I was heartbroken to be leaving not only the island itself but because of the relationships that I was forced to put in my wake............especially one very close one. God blessed me by allowing me to be in a position to help others so much. Perhaps more of my story will be added later............
