Bruce's Story

Life Fifty five years since I graduated highschool. Just seems like yesterday. I spent 33 years with a major industrial distribution company, started as a truck driver and wound up being marketing manager for the B.C. region with 38 branches. I'm married, had 4 kids, two girls, two boys, and have four grandchildren. Three girls one boy. Unfortunately my two youngest kids passed away in 2008. My daughter from breast cancer, my son from a heart attack. 2008 was not a good year for the Hansen family. I started a small business consulting firm after retiring in 2003 but dissolved the company after my son died in Sept 2008. My time is spent playing snooker and 8 ball, making and playing violins (I sold one of the violins I made so I guess they are fairly decent), oil painting, playing golf and gardening. I'm also the president of a registered charitable seniors organization that takes up 30-50 hours a month, also I'm very active in community affairs.. So I keep busy I don't travel much anymore but have visited many places in the USA, have spent time in Australia, Japan, and just recently got back from Scotland, but just love Vancouver. There is no place better, we moved here in 1968. Through Classmates I have managed to contact a number of people I grew up with and shared some great memories. Unfortunately two have since passed away, Lorne Shulz, and Faye Andrews. Others that are still alive and happy are: Sandy Dawson, Bob Graden, Audrey Lund, Ron Marriot, Diane Cutler, Larry Atkey, Bob Whyte, Bob Schultz, Margaret Spooner, Joanne Godard. Hope I haven't forgot anyone. Although not through Classmates, but for those that grew up in north east Edmonton in the 50's, I have had business dealings through out my career with Terry King and Mike Shostak (both St Joes). I would be very interested to know if anyone can shed some light on what e...Expand for more
ver happened to some other people from that community. Rick Anderson, Johnny Footz, Donnie Genest, Ralph Rudd, Jimmy Shaughnessy, Mary Maruschak, Bill Evendon, Ron Fillipchuk, Gordie Warden, Patty Spracklen, Jeannie Gray, Arlene Parker, Joyce Cummings, Reet Gagnon. After a 30 year search I finally was able to contact Mike and Jean Napper (Victoria High) and through them Hildegarde, Hugh Kerr's (St. Joes) widow. Wow! It was so nice talking to them all again. Especially Hildegarde who I had a special bond with, and through her learned more of some of the many other people we used to hang out with. Including Elton Gorden, and Mel and Iris Wilson. I recently had a visit with Hildegarde, who was visiting her brother here in Vancouver. His name was Harry Bredt and played guitar for Wes Henderson and the Rebels who anybody growing up in Edmonton and went to teen dances in the 50's will remember. Apparently Wes still has a band and plays around the Greater Vancouver area. Harry still plays with him but goes by the name of Star which he legally changed. Unfortunately I just found out that Larry Wosnock (St Joes) passed away in 2003. I talked to June, Larry's widow a couple of years ago. After 30 years it was very enlightening. June went to Eastglen, her maiden name was Andrichuk. I also recently heard that Eric Telford who went to St. Joe's passed away in Dec. '07. Well I can't think of anything else that might interest anybody. I noticed I have had 699 people visit my profile, 343 left their name. I would love to hear from any of you that may still remember this old dog. Or at least leave your name when you visit here. I would like to encourage everyone to help defeat breast cancer and heart disease with a donation to the Terry Fox Foundation or The Heart and Stroke Foundation for what ever you can afford. Have a great day.
