Bruce's Story
Graduated from Franklin HS in 1966, then Oregon State in 1970 with BSEE (electronics engineering). In the summer of 1968 between my OSU sophomore and junior years, I was invited to join Tektronix as a summer student intern which effectively marked the beginning of my 50-year career in electronics. With my degree in 1970, I formally became a design engineer at Tek and quickly rose through the ranks to become a design group manager in 1979. In 1984, three other co-workers and I resigned from Tek to start our own high-tech company called Audio Precision that designs and manufactures test and measurement instruments for the audio industry. In 2012, fortuitous circumstances allowed me to become AP's majority shareholder and Chairman; but I continued to remain very active in new product development until my retirement in 2018. g my final years, I negotiated a buyback of my shares to ensure an orderly transition to new management, and of course, my ultimate paycheck. Overall, between my work at Tektronix and Audio Precision, I received 13 patents for various circuit innovations along with several other significant awards.
Socially, during my early years at Tek, I met my future wife, Suzanne (David Douglas HS, class of 1967) who also was working there. We fell in love in late 1973 and were married in June of 1974. Our marriage was blessed with two great daughters (born 1977 and 1979), and now two grandkids (born 2015 and 2018). Having done our part to perpetuate the human species, we now enjoy quiet times at home watching our grandkids grow, and occasionally taking them to the beach, Disneyland, Hawaii, and other great places.
