Bruce's Story

I have been very fortunate. Life has been good so far. PHS was a great place to go to school. I got along well with so many people on a daily basis and have many fond memories. After high school, I went to Bradley University, met more good people, but also stayed close to my PHS friends. There were visits back to MP (homecoming, holidays, summers) and many good times. Later transferred to Illinois State and graduated with a double major in Math and Accounting (1975). After graduation, took a job at CNA Insurance Companies in Chicago as an actuarial mathematician. I stayed for 25 yrs. (more good stories and adventures being part of the downtown life), and eventually became a Vice President and Officer of the company. I met my wife Kathy (originally from St. Louis), in 1978 while walking to the Des Plaines train station where I took the train downtown each day. Afte...Expand for more
r a year or so, she finally took a liking to me and we got married. We enjoyed the city life moving to Chicago downtown for three years. Movies, Cub games, formal dinner events, CSO, and we even tried an opera or two. I always thought Mount Prospect would be a great place to raise kids so we moved back to MP in 1985 and had three children. Many happy days followed. In 1999, I left CNA Insurance and took a job as one of the Managing Directors of the Society of Actuaries in Schaumburg. My oldest (a son) also went to PHS and graduated in 2005. My two daughters also went to Prospect, got a great education, were prominent in Orchesis, and graduated in 2017. It has always been fun to go back for football, theater and dancing events. Regarding my PHS friends, I have stayed in touch with quite a few and it is great to still have these people as part of my extended family.

As part of the four days of ceremonies and dinners there was also a Princeton Prom for the graduates and parents. I got to take both girls to the prom. A lucky Dad.
