Bruce's Story
Hello friends and classmates!
A little about me that many of you might not know.
Born in Seattle May 10, 1944. Moved to Lake Shore in 1948. I have a sister Barbara 75 and a brother John who is 73. So I was the baby of the family. Dec. 24, 1948 our father passed away from a decending Aortic aneurism that burst while he was helping stack some lumber at my uncle's. I can remember the police coming to the door with the news. My mother broke down crying and I said to her," that's ok momma, I'll take care of you." Isn't interesting how those events and pictures are fixed in our memories? We owned our own home and my mother Leona never dated so I had a secure childhood. I missed my father terribly because due to his long term illness he raised me and spent time with me while our mother worked. Thankfully our mother was a committed Christian who lived her Faith. Towards the end of her pregnancy, she developed toxemia and was hospitalized. She was confined to bed and w...Expand for more
as not allowed to even feed herself. Her blood pressure was the highest on record at the Swedish Hospital and her doctor that if she didn't abort me she could die. She refused and expressed her faith in the One who had saved her had carried her thus far. After I was born the doctor waived his entire fee stating," I have never seen such faith." He also went on to treat missionaries at no charge in his later years. My name came about in a rather unusual way. As my mother was musing over what she would call me a nurse said," if ever have a son, I would name him Bruce." Her doctor's last name was Douglas so that became my middle name. So I became Bruce Douglas McAllister. Besides both of us being extremly ill due to the toxemia, I was born premature. I think around 5 1/2 pounds covered with hair! I could be held in one hand and my sister's exclaimation when she first saw me was'" Momma, how can he/it? live?' Well by our Lord's wonderful Grace! More to come. Bruce
