Bruce Rogan:  

After graduating South River( NJ) high school in June 1960, I was sworn into the Navy on August 15, 1960. After Boot training (Co. 382) I went to ET"A"(North Chicago 1 year). Didn't like it and essentially quit. Was sent to the San Diego, CA to the USS Rogers DDR-876. After a few months I was invited to join the FTs. My LPO was FTG-2 Ray Baer for the MK-56 mod 15 for 5 Inch 38 Cal and 3 Inch 50 Cal guns for which I got a "C" school. Then I remember FTG-2 Branch from Fort Worth, James W. Ross FTG-2 now of Chula Vista, CA and thats it for FT crew members. Ship deployed to WES PAC 1962 (Vietnam). Ship transferred from to Charleston, SC for FRAM via Panama Canal 1963. Married to Janice Bozard and out of Navy Nov. 1963. Was on the road home to NJ Nov, 22 the day Kennedy was killed. Worked for S&H Green Stamps (Edison, NJ) 2 months and decided to rejoin Navy in Charleston, SC. (1 year) Went back to California (4+ years total) and the USS Pickaway APA-222. Back to Nam 1964. Transferred to Norfolk, VA May 1965 and TAD USS Sierra AD-18 and to Drone Anti-Submarine Helicopter School at Dam-neck, VA. Back to Nam 1966 on USS Stormes DD-780. Gun fire support in Nam cruised around the world and all the Navy SP duty at every port. Not to mention all those haircuts I gave that were just at regulation to save up for a new 1967 Chevy. When we returned to Conus I transferred to NOB Norfolk (the base) and worked as a Brig Chaser then left Navy in Dec. 1967. I worked for Lockheed Electronics Co. North Plaunfield, NJ from Feb. 5, 1968 til Feb. 5, 1973 as an Engineering Tech and then a test tech A for military products including MADAR and GFCS MK 86. While there I went to college nights towards a degree in Electronics Technology. Back...Expand for more
