Bruce's Story
Life
Life is good. When I got married (1973), the bets were on 6 months or less. It's been over 3 1/2 decades now. So much for betting! I still sing and play guitar (mostly at church). We have a great house and better friends. They really are friends, because they're ALWAYS there when we need them, and we NEVER resent being there when they need us. It does matter. Denise and I survived the Navy and 20 years after, and now (2007) we're surviving the retirement test period (home on extended recovery for a work injury and knee replacement).
College
It took me over 35 years to go back to school after high school graduation, but I graduated from college with a 4.0 GPA once I did go back. It was more documenting what I had learned on my own, but it seems to matter to employers, and the ...Expand for more
post 50 age group needs to show they are still marketable.
Workplace
I had a break from work when I broke my right knee at work, and found that just staying home isn't so much fun. It's still at least 12 years till I can retire, but I'm looking forward to it and all the things I've been wanting to do for a long time. I'm getting the toys now so I've have plenty to play with then.
Military
Almost 20 years on active duty. Finally retired in 1987 (last day of work was December of 1986). I wouldn't change a thing about it. I didn't like being separated from family and friends, but I really think it helped make me stronger. Time at sea gave me the opportunity to get to know myself and how to get along with others. Now that I've been retired for over 20 years, I can look back on it fondly.
