Bruce's Story

Hey All: Here is a brief rundown on where I have been (as if you all even care!) My dad was transfered to Detroit when I was going into the 10th grade. Thus I left Naperville, IL and Naperville North High School and enrolled at Farmington Hills Harrison High school. At Harrison I was active in sports. I graduated from Harrison HS and went to Albion College in Albion MI where I played football for four years and earned a degree in Economics. I began a career in commercial banking working for Comerica Bank in various positions for the next 8 years in various locations including Detroit, Chicago and East Lansing. While working full time I earned an MBA from Wayne State University. When I was 28 I was visiting one of my close friends, Steve Waldron in Hilton Head and I met my future wife who was a native of that part of the world. We were married within 13 months of meeting each other and about a year after we were married we moved from East Lansing to her home town Bluffton, SC which is located right across the bridge from Hilton Head Island. This year we will be celebrating our 16th anniversary. I was in commercial banking on Hilton Head for almost 7 years and after working for Wachovia for a short time started a new operation for a regional bank. After an "in market merger" with a larger local bank I shifted my career path to join my brother in law in purchasing a family business with another partner. Since then I have been a principal in Johnson Dulaney Builders on Hilton Head. We are one of the oldest builders in the market and specialize in the construction of high end single family homes. We also do commercial work and renovation work. I am a jack of all trades handling individual projects, financial affairs, and marketing. I am very active in my community having participated on numerous boards as treasurer including the Boys & Girls Clubs and Rotary. Rotary is my main community focus now and we are very active in supporting childre...Expand for more
n's charities. My best local friends are folks that I have met through Rotary. I am married to a great gal and we have three sons; aged 11, 9, and 5. She is a banker and works full time. I spend alot of time coaching youth sports; baseball and basketball which I love to do. It may be hard to believe but I do agree that "winning is not everything"! I'm still in decent shape although let's just say that I can't stay out in the sun long without a cap on! That is a nice way to say "male pattern baldness"! In our spare time our family likes to go to our lake house in GA to relax, watch NASCAR (Dale JR. Fans, love to go to races), football, American Idol, and spend time with good friends and family. Football season is still the best time of the year for me with NASCAR and college basketball a close second. My wife's brother lives in the same neighborhood and we spend alot of time with her family. I still stay in touch with Harrison Alums John Perry and Jim Macielak on a regular basis, as well as James Wise (Class of '79), and Richard Kouzoujian. More sporadically I speak with Matt Bubba Lessins. The last time I saw most of the class was at our class reunion almost 7 years ago. It has been a long time. I still sporadically speak and e-mail correspond with Jim Muth of Naperville North fame who is alive and well in California. For those of you who knew my parents, my mom passed away two days after 9-11-01 after a relatively short illness that ended up being terminal. They had retired to Florida about five years prior. My dad is still in Florida and has for the last few years had a great "significant other" who is now a part of the family. I would love to hear from old classmates and if any of you are ever in the neighborhood, we would be pleased to have you or your family over for a cocktail or soda, whichever you prefer. I hope all is well with you and maybe someone will organize a 30 year reunion. Gee has it been that long?!? Regards, Yeags
