Bryan's Story
Life
Gradeschool at Oak Hill (K through 3rd) then Scott (4th through 8th).
Highschool at Evansville North. Homeroom was Mr Uhde. Fortunate to graduate really - too much booze and smoke, regret not putting forth a much better effort. Entered the Air Force on my 21st birthday. Smartest thing I ever did and it completely changed my life.
My career field in the Air Force was 3C0 - in normal language this translated to Communications - Computer System Operator. It was a very broad career field - and because of that, I worked all kinds of jobs during my Air Force tenure. These included switchboard operator (early in my career), message center operations, PC repair, processing IT requirement technical solutions, information assurance and computer security, system administration (3 different functional mesaging-type systems), communications security and Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge (boss guy) and Chief (another boss guy).
I was stationed at McChord (Washington state), Yokota (Tokyo Japan), Andersen (Guam), Misawa (Northern Japan) and Kadena (Okinawa). I also did three AEFs - first to Naples, Italy (can you freakin' believe that!); the second to Sarajevo, Bosnia; and the third to Tallil AB (now known as Ali AB), Iraq.
I retired out of the Air Force as a Master Sergeant in January 2005, after serving 21 years. Initially after retirement, I did DoD contract work as a System Analyst for Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) working with the Marines on Okinawa. That went on for a little over a year. After that, I transferred from CSC to General Dynamics (GD). I started with GD on Okinawa (supporting Marines), then worked for them in Hawaii (again supporting Marines), but am now working for them in Germany (Stuttgart - supporting a Joint Service operation).
The Air Force and DoD contractor work has provided me numerous opportunities to travel (good and bad) and I have either lived in, worked in, or visited, the following countries: Canada, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, Philippines, Guam, Singapore, Italy, Germany, Bosnia, Croatia, Iraq, Oman and Kuwait. I have also survived a Category 4 typhoon eye passage and an 8.1 earthquake.
I was married in 1991 to a Japanese national who I met while stationed at Yokota Airbase. We were married until early 2007. I remarried to a wonderful Filipina woman named Erlinda in December 2007. We are very happy.
Hobbies include hanging out at the beach, cycling (road and mountain), going to the gym (when time permits), golf, listening to and collecting music, watching a "good" movie, traveling, chillin' with the ol' lady (term of endearment), trying to wisely invest our savings and computer gaming (especially war-gaming - I'm a bit of a grognard).
Most beautiful places I have ever visited are Capri (Italy) and the Kerama Islands (Okinawa). Most interesting places I have ever visited are Japan and Hong Kong.
Ciao

now ski. Did lots of fishing, hiking, camping and snow skiing. Wonderful area.
1986 to 1992
Yokota AB, Tokyo Japan
Tokyo is the best place in the world to be young, obnoxious and single!!! Great times at Byblos, Mugens, 49 Club, Kabukicho, Tsubaki House, Yumi's, Eddy's, Halo Halo, Jazz N Rock, Shibuya, Ebisu, Roppongi, Shinjuku, Koji Ito's bar, Kodaira, and Tama Hills. Oh, the memories.....Numerous deployments and several vacations to Korea. Eventually meeting the woman who would become my wife. Towards the end of the tour, a big transition - marriage and domestic life.
1992 to 1995
Andersen AFB, Guam
Guys Night Out - getting a kitchen pass from the ol' lady and heading downtown with the boys. Strip clubs here are the best in the world and were outrageous fun!! Getting a scuba certification and getting lost on a night dive (not a good memory, but a lasting one)!! Surviving typhoon Omar and a 8.2 earthquake (again not good memories, but certainly lasting ones)!! Nursing my wife back to health after she nearly drowned in a snorkeling accident.
Load shedding - Guam veterans know what this means!!!!!!!
1995 to 2000
Misawa AB, Northern Japan
Doing lots of GREAT mountain and road bike riding. Incredible hiking up Mt. Odate and relaxing in the Onsen at its base thereafter. Killer festivals - Aomori Nebuta & Hirosaki Sakura. Beautiful, mild summers and long, snowy winters. Traveling to Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong. Absolutely loved this place!!
November of 1999 to January 2000
AFSOUTH, Naples Italy
3-month AEF deployment. Don't think you can ask for a better deployment location. The food - oh God, it was heaven! Learning the art of 3-a-day cappuccino breaks. The off-duty road trips: Rome, Vatican, Capri (by boat), Amalfi coast, Caserta, Monte Casino, Sorrento, Mount Vesuvius, Pompeii, downtown Naples and skiing in the Alps. The people: What can you say about Italians that hasn't already been said a million times before. They really are treasures.
2000 to 2005
Kadena AB, Okinawa Japan
Not a lot of favorite memories in regards to work - operations tempo is way too busy for a 3C TSgt or MSgt. This was definitely the busiest place I was ever stationed. Off duty though, this place is wonderful - beautiful island. Retired from military January 2005!!
Early summer 2001 to late December 2001
Camp Butmir, Sarajevo Bosnia
4-month AEF deployment. Being absolutely stunned by the events on Sept 11th. Road trips packin' weapons and in "full battle rattle". Takin' care of business. Was deployed to an Allied Intel Battalion and the crew I worked with busted their asses - we did a LOT of really good things!
Early summer 2004 to early fall 2004
Tallil AB, An Nasiriyah Iraq
3-month AEF deployment. Living out of a duffel bag in a tent. Hot, windy & sandy...Did I mention it was hot, windy & sandy...HOT, WINDY & SANDY!!!
December 2004
Kadena AB, Okinawa
Begin my terminal leave in preparation for RETIREMENT!!!!
Civilian
January 2005 to March 2006
Camp Courtney and Camp Hansen, Okinawa.
Begin work as a government contractor with CSC.
March 2006 to June 2009
MCAS Futenma, Okinawa
Changing gears...jump from CSC to General Dynamics - change duty locations to boot...
June 2009 to September 2010
