Bryan's Story
WHAT ABOUT YOU WOULD SURPRISE EVERYONE AT YOUR HIGH SCHOOL REUNION?
Nothing really...there have not been any "drastic" changes in my lifestyle. I'm still quiet and reserved, still don't party much, and still love sports and the outdoors.
WHICH TEACHER WOULD YOU LOVE TO SEE AGAIN? WHY?
I would say Mrs. Elrod, but I already see her all the time. She and I share the same birthday and I have shared my birthday cake with her for many many years. She and my Mom are close and go out for coffee and breakfast often. Besides "Edna", I would be curious to see how Gerald Chatwood is doing. He was a really interesting guy (especially at the State Basketball Tournament in Lakeland)
WHAT IS THE WILDEST THING YOU EVER DID IN SCHOOL?
Water-skied naked at night - not alcohol related stupidity either!!
WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR FIRST CRUSH?
Grade School - Jan Hughes (Class of 79) Don't know what happend to her....Got married and lives in Dothan, AL, I've heard.
Middle/High School - Zanna Evans (Class of 81) went off to Brigham Young University and really never came back. She met her husband out there and had several kids.
HOW DO YOU HOPE YOUR FRIENDS REMEMBER YOU?
Someone that was quiet, but friendly. Honest and loyal to the good friends that I had. And hard working and disciplined on the athletic fields.
TO BE TRULY HAPPY, YOU WOULD BE WHERE, DOING WHAT, WITH WHOM?
I'm very lucky that I get to realize this dream every year. My wife's family goes to Mexico Beach for a week every 4th of July.....I love being lazy on the beach (the hotter the better) with my wife and my two sons.
LIFE DOESN'T ALWAYS TURN OUT THE WAY YOU EXPECT. WHAT'S BEEN YOUR BIGGEST SURPRISE?
No real big surprises really. I was always a very devoted/dedicated boyfriend and felt...Expand for more
like I was ready for marriage "early" in life (20's). I guess I'm kinda surprised that I didn't get married until I was 33 years old.
YOU GET ONE DO-OVER. WHAT DO YOU DO DIFFERENTLY?
I would have gone a different route in choosing a college major. I think I was very immatue when I had to make that life guiding decsion and was still a frustrated jock when I went into "Resort & Commercial Recreation". I wish I had chosen a more challenging course. It turned out fine, but I wish I had been pushed a little harder by my choice.
WHAT IS THE WEIRDEST JOB YOU EVER HAD?
NONE - Everything has been very normal for me. I did paint billboard signs on the interstate one fall when I was between jobs.
WHERE HAVE YOU LIVED? WHY DID YOU MOVE?
I went to the University of West Florida in Pensacola after graduating from Chipola. After college I took a Recreation Director position at at Resort and Country Club in Gautier, Mississippi. I worked there until I realized that my potential for growth was stagnent and came home to coach Marianna High School football. While I was coaching and substitute teaching, I heard about the "NEW" Federal Prison that was opening in Marianna. I applied and was selected for a Recreation Specialist position running the intramural programs for the inmates. (June 1988) I have been with the Bureau of Prisons ever since then moving up to increasing responsibility positions along the way. I have transferred to Greenville, Illinois (2 years - 1994-96) and to Tallahassee, Florida ( 2 years - 1998 - 2000) and I am currently the Federal Prison Industries (UNICOR) Factory Manager for two Automated Data Processing factories in Marianna . I am eligible for retirement in 2011 and have a mandatory retirement date sometime in 2018.
