Bryce's Story

Hard to believe it's been 15 years. Since high school...went to college at Oberlin in '93, had an amazing experience there, studied viola, blah blah. Probably not the most focused time in my life, but I survived those hazy college years. Stayed at Oberlin just the right amount of time, 4 1/2 yrs in school and then one semester just hanging out and taking lessons. Got into grad school at CIM (Cleveland) in '98 and finally started focusing (!) & taking orch auditions. Took the Air Force audition for practice in Feb '99 and actually got the job. Quit CIM that May and went to Basic Training (yeah, the real thing - my parents couldn't believe it either) and moved to DC in July '99. DC is great and I seriously have the easiest job in the world. Our job is permanently situated here, so I don't do all that moving around...Expand for more
that most AF people are subjected to. And at this point I'm almost halfway through my career, as at 20 years we can retire.....for me that'll be age 44. So I'm hanging in there. Went back to school at the University of Maryland a few years back and finished that pesky Masters degree. Ugh. Right after that I traded in my studio apt/condo downtown and managed to buy a 1930's rowhouse (some assembly required) in NW DC. Three years later and I'm still working...realized too late that I'm not really the handyman type. Oh well. So I manage to keep myself pretty busy w/ the house, work, freelancing, volunteering, planting trees, landscaping the neighborhood, etc. And while I really like DC, I take every possible opportunity to get outta town. It's a pretty big world... get out there and experience it! But enough about me. Hope everyone is doing great and maybe I'll manage to get to the reunion this time. Take care and stay in touch.
