Bryce's Story
Well, after leaving Fellowes, I earned my BA at Queen's University at Kingston, followed by my teaching certificate at McGill.
My first teaching job after graduation was at the Canadian Overseas College(unfortunate acronym - it is now called the Canadian International School) in Singapore. In my last year at CIS, I met my wife, Agatha, through a mutual friend. The year we got married I moved to work at the school she was teaching at, the Overseas Family School, so as to have a housing allowance and common holidays.
A couple of years into our marriage we moved to teach at the Ifrane School in the mid-Atlas mountains of Morocco, where we stayed for 2 years. After that, we moved to Saudi Arabia to work and save some money, again for a couple of years.
In 2000, we moved to Canada, and bought a house in Montreal. I worked at Selwyn House...Expand for more
School and Agatha studied and worked at McGill. In 2003, our son Benen was born.
In 2004, though, Agatha was diagnosed with nodular melanoma, and in the summer and fall had a couple of surgeries and intensive immunotherapy.
With the onset of winter, Agatha wished to get away somewhere warm and sunny to counteract the depressive effects of her immunotherapy. So, we came to Muscat, Oman, in early 2005 where first I, and then we, worked at the ABA.
Sadly, Agatha's cancer metastatized in her right lung in late 2007, and while she had surgery to remove the tumours in Singapore, in the summer of 2008 it had metastatized in her liver in an aggressive fashion. After a month at the Pembroke Regional Hospital, she passed away on August 2nd, 2008.
So, for now, Benen and I remain in Muscat, where I teach and he is in senior kindergarten.
