Burgo's Story

My Life..... Born in El Paso and residing at 961 Wyatt Dr, I attended Loma Terrace Elementary School. With my Father in the Military and having to relocate to Fort Sill Oklahoma, I spent my Eighth grade at Tomlinson Junior High School. We returned back to El Paso the following year where I attended Bel Air High School. Another Military move put me in San Antonio at MacArthur High School for my Sophmore year. Then back to El Paso for my Junior year at Bel Air. Left Bel Air High School my Senior year for Eastwood High School. I kinda regretted that decision because I was ineligible to participate in Sports (changing High Schools in the same District). Graduated May 1973 from Eastwood High School. College.....the first being UTEP. Within only attending three months, I realized I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life......so with that thought and dropping out of UTEP, I packed my bags for Hawaii to visit my sister in the Fall of 1973. Hawaii.....was a short stay when you are young and unemployed, so by December of 1973 I enlisted in the United States Air Force as a Veterinary Technician / Medic and was off to Lackland Air Force Base, Texas for basic training by May 1974. Basic Training.....long hot hours, days, weeks, in San Antonio Texas for eight weeks. After basic training, my next stop was Sheppard Air Force Base for technical school. It was here where I was first introduced to the Physician Assistant Program. During my military training, I married my High School sweatheart Kathy Dianne Hale. Two years into our marriage we had a wonderful son named Wesley James Gill. I attended Antelope Valley College for Paramedic studies while stationed at Edwards Air Force Base. I was Honorably discharged from the USAF at Edwards Air Force Base in May 1976. We moved back to El Paso, but by the third year in our marrige we were divorced. Divorced.....and single my priorities were education and baseball. With the help of the GI Bill and Baseball Scholarships (and EMT at Eastwood Hospital), I spent the next several years at El Paso Community College, UTEP, and Pikes Peak Community College trying to complete the Physician Assistant prerequisites. I was determine to be selected for a PA Program. To my dismay, it took four years befo...Expand for more
re I was accepted into a PA Program. During this four year strife, I completed a License Vocational Nursing Program. As for my baseball career......... it fell short of only one year at UTEP and a couple of years in the Texas and Mexico Independent Leagues. My Career.....becoming a Physician Assistant was my goal. It was September of 1980 when I entered the four year Physician Assistant's Program at Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, West Virginia. Using my LVN license at the local hospital's ICU help subsidized my tuition. While attending A-B College, I enrolled at the University of the State of New York (now Excelsior College) in Albany, New York to complete my RN license in 1983. I completed my PA internship at Greater Southeast Hospital, Washington, DC with the Howard University Residents. I graduated from Alderson-Broaddus College in May 1984 (cum laude). Marriage again.....it was at Alderson-Broaddus College where I met my current wife Stephanie Ann(Guzzi) Gill. She graduated in 1984 as a Medical Technologist only to return to college at UTEP for a teaching degree in secondary education. We were married on 25AUG1984 in Bridgeport, West Virginia. Our first home was in El Paso with me being employed with El Paso ENT Associates from 1984 to 1988. We left El Paso in the summer of 1988 for Statesville, North Carolina. Statesville.....is our home now. We have two lovely daughters. Ashtin is 15 and Kristalyn is 12. I have since moved from one Emergency Department to another, but have now settled in at Piedmont Urgent Care since 1998. I completed a Masters Degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2002. Stephanie is currently employed as a Science Teacher at Statesville Christian School. Hobbies.....my current hobbies include Ice Hockey, Gym-Rat, Cowboy Action Competition Shooting, Reenacting, and golf (if the weather is nice). Military.....I re-enlisted in the United States Navy Reserve in August of 1987. My current rank is CDR. Specialty is Physician Assistant Emergency Medicine. I plan to retire from the Navy Reserve in 2012. As of 2008.....I am currently deployed overseas with the United States Navy. This is my fourth tour. Hopefully, I will be home in October of 2008 to see my family and friends.
