Buzz's Story

LIFE: - The purpose of life is to know and love God!!! To love one another and to share God's love in deed, in word and in spirit. This earthly life is only a 'spark' at the beginning of an eternity with God. ...or not (those who reject God). It is God's immeasurably loving 'introduction' to 'real life' (eternal life). We are all sojourners in this place we call Earth. This life, the 'length' of this life, our accomplishments, possessions, wealth, etc. - all great blessings to fully enjoy, but not 'important' beyond following our callings, using our talents, taking care of ourselves and loved ones, helping others and giving of ourselves, talents and blessings. MOST IMPORTANTLY: Simply acknowledging, appreciating and receiving wholeheartedly God and His great love! Simple, eh?! :) And YOU, my friends, are so very important! I cherish none more than my dear classmates and the years shared at Sheldon High, Cal Young Jr. High (now Cal Young Middle School), Coburg Elementary, Mohave Elementary (Scottsdale, AZ - now Mohave Middle School), and Guy Lee Elementary (Springfield, OR). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LIFE'S FAVORITES: - - Knowing and learning about our loving God! (The more you 'think' about God, acknowledge and seek Him, the more He reveals himself in daily life.) - **Nothing beats being 'Dad' to my one and only precious daughter, Christine!** (Yep! That's 'Bub', as I call her, in the photos - High School Junior Princess. I'm so proud of her! :) ) - Time with friends and family. - **Companionship and 'togetherness!'** (Truly marriage/soulmate minded. ..maybe too much so. ..and now too single. :| ) - Love cats! - Still love motorcycles, guitars, airplanes, cars and boats. - **Making music!** (together, in a band setting). An indescribable expression of the soul. - **Motocross!** 'Flying' motorcycles through the trees around a most awesome natural terrain course (i.e. the first Eugene Motocross in Goshen), I thought I was in heaven. I thanked God aloud, throttle wide open (or 'WFO' as mx'ers better understand), and at times could not help but laugh aloud midrace. (..and 'that' trophy girl [Albany MX] confirmed I was indeed in heaven! :) ) - Flying - Just being airborne at low altitude, roaming beautiful landscapes at low speed and seeing all below; Bob Hoover style, graceful as a bird aerobatics; Slipping a high-performance twin into a canyon wilderness airstrip; High speed low passes just to say 'hello'; Taking off on a drizzling day (or night) to bust through cloud tops to a bright blue, sunlit (or starlit) sky; Flying far and wide, jet-style, so in awe of God and His creation all the way; And so appreciating the 'stick-and-rudder' experience of flying, elegant flying-machine design and construction, aircraft flight characteristics and master craftsmanship. - Cruising, exploring and enjoying nature and wildlife along the coast, through the countryside, mountains, forests and deserts, by motorcycle and convertible, off-road and on, by air and by foot. - Just goofing off, playing and vegging in the sun/shade, on a beach, lakeside, riverside or in the hills. - Cannot get enough of the coast and the roaring of the sea 'together.' - Missions, worship, praise, praise-music and God's Word (i.e. evangelical 'Christian' Bible). - School and learning. I'd love to be a professional, perpetual, full-time 'audit' student of the worlds best 'hands-on-technical,' technology, math, science, engineering and music teachers. - Ducks and Blazers forever! Seahawks and UW Huskies, too! ...aaannd too much more! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MUSIC FAVORITES: - I love music of all kinds, ..except for most disco, punk, hip-hop/rap, death metal and other more 'crude' genres. ..sorry folks. ;) - Raised on 60's and 70's 'classic' rock, southern rock, country rock, blues and smooth jazz, and have grown to so appreciate progressive/symphonic rock, classical, neoclassical, flamenco, reggae, soft instrumental/cafe (of many forms), contemporary and classic Christian/praise, and my favorite, 'rock-blues-jazz-fusion' (my name for a nebulous style in which these genres are elegantly fused), as well as other genres and music of the world. - Current favorite song/recording/video: 'A Higher Ground' by the late Pete Bardens and company (official video with eagle flying over glaciers - see Youtube) - Hear the lyrics as an eagle describing their home, their life in the sky, "in the sky we call our home." ..and that's some soul-tugging guitar work by Neale Heywood, huh?! "Ohhhh, ya got the vieeww!" - All-time favorite musician/band: Andrew Latimer and Camel (especially the original Camel lineup of Latimer, Bardens, Ward and Ferguson, and later Collins). [Search "Camel top tracks" on Youtube] - You must really listen to all of Camel's published music and study some the person of 'Andy' Latimer to discover a truly extraordinary musical soul, so fully enveloped, so deeply touched, endeared and defined by music from birth ('Straight To My Heart'); and a musician/person so respectful and appreciative of the listener - so humbly, passionately displayed and so soulfully expressed in his music, lyrics and performances. - Here's a truly GREAT pop/soft-rock mostly-love-songs band that most in the U.S. have never heard: 'Michael Learns To Rock' (search "MLTR top tracks" on Youtube). A megaband in all of Asia and most of the world (#1 band in Asia), this band was rejected by mainland U.S. radio DJ's to make way for emerging pop artists and 'boy bands' here in the U.S.. Some didn't like the band's name, a name that 'stuck' after quick success following a high school music competition. ..Listen! ;) ...and more! Lovvvee music!!! Making it, hearing it, soaking and basking in it! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MOVIE FAVORITES: - Good sci-fi (especially time travel), adventure, inspirational, romance, drama, family, some fantasy, tasteful comedy. No goth, gore or horror! Some favorites: The Theory of Everything [2006, *not 2014*], Time Changer [2002], The Final Countdown, Somewhere in Time,...Expand for more
Primer, Back to the Future series, The Time Machine [1960 & 2002]. ..and more. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SCHOOL: - Master of Science, Aeronautics and Astronautics (Aeronautical Engineering), UW; Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering, Magna Cum Laude, second in class, UofP; Associate of Science, Aviation Maintenance Technology (A&P IA certification), 4.00 GPA, PCC; Pilot training (Commercial Instrument Multi-engine Land, Flight Instructor, Ground Instructor); Self study (Computers, IT, electronics, etc.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JOBS: - Hay bailer: Bean and berry picker; Dill puller; Filbert and walnut gatherer; Farm/ranch helper: Automotive equipment sales; Dish washer; Equipment washer; Gas station attendant; Motorcycle mechanic & race bike builder; Auto mechanic; Engine builder; Auto body and paint, restoration; Equipment technician/installer; Computer technician, IT; Aircraft mechanic/inspector; Teaching Assistant (PCC, UofP, UW): Research Assistant (UW, Kirsten Wind Tunnel); College Instructor (Aviation Maintenance Tech, A&P); Flight Controls Engineer (AeroLift CycloCrane, Flight Dynamics Heads Up Display); Mechanical Engineer (mechanical design, design/analysis of structural repairs); Aircraft Pilot (flight instruction, charter operations, fire patrol, corporate jet, cargo airline, passenger airline); Aircraft, automotive, guitar, tube-amp and manufacturing design (works in progress); ...and I must include, Caregiver to Mom (by far the most difficult 'job' to date! ..but a labor of love) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Life has, so far, included way too much in the way of 'gyro-toppling' drama and far too many unexpected, unpleasant surprises. Truly bizarre at times, approaching the 'utterly unbelievable' (and unspeakable ..unthinkable). Some of the wildest fiction is more believable than some 'reality' I've encountered. I plead with God the remainder of life be without an abundance of unpleasant happenstance, and instead somehow a little bit more serendipitous. Just a little! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Examples among many of life's tooo many dramas: - Meeting in-person, face-to-face, on multiple occasions and learning many details over a period of time (not speculation, not hearsay), the notorious federal criminal (now somewhat of a cult figure) in the only as-of-yet 'unsolved' federal crime mystery of it's kind - and finding 'experienced' agents assigned to the case to be dismissive and 'uninterested' even to hear the matter as they deem initial facts don't fit long-held [but critically flawed] narratives!?!?!?!?!? (It cannot be gleaned covertly; I've written it nowhere!). - Hearing my own song, note-for-note, on the radio after it was recorded and published without permission by a Fresno jazz musician who secretly recorded it via Blackberry as I played for him in a Fresno music store. - Naively discovering I'd been fraudulently duped in the most personal way you can imagine - for now I must leave it to your imagination. - Leisure travels to Indonesia and in a relationship with an Indonesian woman (Dutch-Indo, Christian) while employed as an airline pilot when 9/11 happened - you might guess some of what followed. Enough, man! Enough!!! ...Alas!!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- In retrospect, some personal misadventure/misfortune has certainly been spawned by my own missteps, oversights, misconceptions and naivete, yet with the information (and misinformation), resources and faculties I had at the time, if given the opportunity to do again, and without extra measures of wisdom, judgement, knowledge, discernment, insight, intuition, foresight and strength, I would likely make 'most' of the very same steps (and missteps) and choices. ...and perhaps in the same manner dismayed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- We each walk an individual, unique path here on earth that is our 'life.' Despite truly woeful troubles and trials herein, I thank God for all of it! I won't let the troubles of life obscure the blessings that abound, especially the awesome, unmerited gift of 'life' itself and the incomparable gift of eternal life with God after this earthy life. I do indeed count the blessings! Glory to God! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Still fightin' through and findin' a way! It's what we Sheldon Fighting Irish do, eh?! ...and I'm reminded: don't sweat the small stuff - it's all small stuff! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Often asked, so I'll say: I've no tattoos, cairde ('friends'). Only 'the beauty of age' and life's battle scars. 'Old-school' values. Traditional marriage and the rest... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Many so beloved childhood friends and relatives have already passed and I so look forward to seeing them all in Heaven, as well as all of 'you,' amicis and classmates, whom I've had far too little opportunity to spend time with in this earthly life. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- John 3:16-17 ...Read it! Believer it! "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." NIV [Important: "..believes in Him.." (Jesus) includes believing in God (He exists), that He lovingly foreordained and created you, that He so loves YOU, and crucially important >>> accepting and receiving God's forgiveness and redemption through the 'necessity' of Jesus' (Messiah, Christ) death on the cross and resurrection.] Search "Why did Jesus come?" and "Why did Jesus die?" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for reading, amigos! Stay blessed! Love ya! - Buzz ...and remember, 'UGADANO THAWANU MAIJA!' (Terry Clark, 1978) ;)
