Calvin's Story

In high scnool I had big dreams of becoming someone successful with lots of money. I always wanted to be an Engineer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were right. I just didn't follow that course. I had the most fun when we went to military summer camp at Fort Polk. We actually stayed in the barracks and had true military experiences. lol When I first went to high school I was in augh because it was my first all black experience. Seeing my beautiful black people especially the sisters in all of their loveliness just blew my mind. I was very unfocused until I met Sgt. Mjr. Gordon who really introduced me to high school with his boot. He talked to me about the choices I'd made and the ones that I will someday make that will impact my life. His realism about the life that I'd been taking for granted really opened my eyes and I switched lanes for the better. I haven't left Baton Rouge due mostly to the fact that I refuse to leave my children behind. My kids and I have a great relationship and couldn't bare being away from them. childish things when I started having kids. I wanted set a good example for them in everything I did and do now. In 1995 I dropped out of school for a while to work after receiving the news that I was about to be a father for the first time. Several years had passed before my son asked me if I had gone to school and how I did in school. I realized that he was watching everything that I do and wanted to duplicate the things that I've accomplished. I went back to school and received my Associates of Science in Business in 2004 and my Bachelors in Business Management in 2005 from Southern University. If I won $100 million, I'd give 10 percent of it to the lord, then spend the rest on my children, my family and those people that was there for me when I was in need . My deepest regret in life is the way that I treated my ex wife who was very good to me. If I had to do it all over again I would've done right by her and would have been able to raise my kids in the same household. My grandmother used to always tell me that you never miss your water until your well runs dry and I've experienced that first hand.
