Cam's Story

Life AOL s/n is cambaulds...Contact me that way (s/n at AOL.com)...I'd love to hear from anyone from my HS/College days. Well life since high school has been an adventure. I got a job with the "Monroe Morning World" daily paper which led to a job with KMLB (News, Sports, Advertising and the NLU Basketball and Ouachita Football Live Broadcast). I enjoyed much success at KMLB. WKNX radio in Saginaw, Michigan heard about me and offered me a job. I accepted. I had become a Christian through the West Monroe First Church of the Nazarene and in particular my friend Robin Roark. I wasn't sure I should leave my church, my CHRISTian friends and my job in Monroe. The Lord spoke to my heart and told me that he had something for me in Michigan and that I should go there. I had a peace about it all as I packed and left for Michigan. My first Sunday in Michigan I met my wife Sharon. Sharon and I were married one year later. GM offered me a job and so I left radio/TV for big business. In the early 80's when the auto industry went bust I was involuntarily reduced and so I went back to college. At Saginaw Valley State University I was contacted by the State of Texas regarding job opportunities there. I accepted a commission from the State of Texas and reported to the Police Academy to begin training. Life on the street in Houston was one big adventure with no two days alike. My wife didn't like my job or Houston and so in "83" when GM asked me to return she gave me the "cop's ultimatum!" My job or my family. Sharon was about ready to have our 2nd child by this time and there was no way I would EVER choose a career over my family. We returned to Michigan. The auto industry has done well ever since and GM became A Delphi job when the parent company spun us off. Delphi has seen better days. As such, I left Delphi and went back to GM...I was assigned to the plant in St. Louis, Missouri but will be returning to Michigan ASAP! Sharon and I have 4 children. 3 Boys (28, 25 & 18), a Daughter (21) and Daughter in Law (30). Sharon is a store manger/florist here in Mid Michigan. My oldest son is an executive for Northwest Airlines which allows Sharon and I to travel for virtually nothing. I have been to 49 States (I have lived in 6 States) and several Countries. Only New Mexico to go. When the oldest was only 9, God laid it on my heart to begin to pray for the spouses of all my kids and their families...I did that and continue to do that every week...My Daughter in Law is everything I asked God to give my children...One down and three to go...LOL! While living in St. Louis, I have picked up my trumpet again and play in the Praise Band at our Church...I hated that thing in HS and never thought I'd ever play again...To my shock, the skills have returned...I can still play...Wonder if the football players can still play football?...Maybe that was what was best for me after all...LOL! Future plans call for retiring from GM, returning to Alaska and Hawaii, living somewhere out west and serving the Lord how/when/where ever I am supposed to be! I believe I am a successful parent...My gauge has always been whether or not my kids are saved, filled with the Spirit and serving Christ...All those things appear to have happened and continue...What they do for a career will never matter nearly as much as their Spiritual Life...I am so proud of all my kids...The best part is, of all the things I have accumulated in life, I get to take the Wife and Kids to heaven with me! ...Expand for more
Hope to see you and your family in Heaven too...Jesus is the only way to Heaven...My life is so much different than how it started out to be...I give Jesus all the credit for that and all my happiness. Yes, I am truly happy! OBTW...The picture above was taken on one of our trips to Hawaii...This one was on the Big Island in Kona! Write soon...cambaulds at aol.com Well, time to update this story...When last I wrote GM had transferred me to Missouri...They promised to let me work there a year and then transfer back to Michigan...As such, Sharon and I decided that we wouldn't uproot our kids or sell our home to go live in Missouri for one year so they stayed behind and I left. The unforeseen event was the economy falling apart and there being no spot in Michigan for me to return to...One year became two...Two years became three...One day I woke and decided to retire...So I did...Just like that...Well, there was a little more planning to it than that but I did retire and move home. I love travel and I was not ready to retire just yet so I got myself a CDL and a job driving truck cross country...The family goes with me when school and work allow....I always dreamed of retiring from GM, buying a camper and living on the road but Sharon was quick to say that, that was NOT her dream...So here I am doing exactly what I have always wanted to do..Traveling and seeing America, plus getting paid to do it...Somebody pinch me...This is the greatest job in the world! I've been to 49 states (Still haven't made it to New Mexico)...I've gotten back to 31 of them in the truck so far and am averaging about 10k miles a month!...Highlights include loading in New Jersey right next to the Statue of Liberty(I'd seen it several times from the NYC side but never up close from the Jersey side), several trips in and out of NYC, going to San Antonio, trips to Canada and southern most Florida and several trips where I got to see family. Sharon and the kids are all doing great...The two youngest are in college getting good grades (No, they don't take after me now do they?...LOL)...They are all basically grown and gone! Now some truly exciting news...I'm a Granddad times 2...Twin boys born on Memorial Day and I am totally and completely swept off my feet...They were born to my oldest son and his wife Kim who live in Minneapolis...Stephen now works for Delta Airlines who took over NWA. I am still enjoying life and love the adventure...I love knowing that by the end of the week I could be anywhere in America...I've always told the kids "I'll go anywhere once" and that is being put to the test...LOL!...I think I'd have done well in the days of Lewis and Clark...Probably would have hired on with those guys and explored the west! One huge drawback about this job is the lack of a Church on the road...Jesus is Lord of my life and I truly love God...There are very few churches near truck stops and I miss that fellowship...Something I never anticipated when I hired on to do this...I do all I can to stay strong in the Lord but not having a church and that accountability makes that all the more difficult...God is good and meets all my needs however...I know this will all get worked out in the long run. In the mean time I leave you with something that came to me yesterday..."If you know Jesus, no matter how good or bad a day has been, you have the hope that tomorrow will be even better!"...Today has been great and I can't wait for tomorrow. I hope you are enjoying your life...Hope to hear from you soon! Cam Somewhere in America!
