Cami's Story
Hmmmm . . . let's see . . . what have I been doing since 1994? After the 4 wonderful years I spent at Ursuline, I headed to Fordham University and graduated with a BA in English and a minor in Women's Studies. College was an absolutely amazing time and I made really great friends who, luckily, for the most part, moved to NYC! After graduating, I briefly backpacked in Europe with a high school friend--great times: white water rafting in Interlaken, randomly catching the Rolling Stones concert in Prague, Mike's Bike Tours in Germany, strolling around Venice, Salzburg, Nice . . . it was amazing. Once back, the bitter reality of getting a job set in, so I began working in advertising foolishly thinking I'd be writing copy and changing the face of the industry. nglish (and Religion, God help me) at Our Lady of Victory Academy in Dobbs Ferry, NY. After a few years, I went back to Fordham for my masters in teaching secondary English. Once I had that degree under my belt and was certified, I applied to public schools in Westchester. 4 years ago, I began teaching 9th and 11th grade English at Pelham Memorial High School. Last year, I received tenure and got engaged--a very big year! Currently, I am still teaching at PMHS and I am planning my April 4th 2009 wedding. Finally, I am working on my first collection of poetry--my other passion (aside from teaching and my fiance). I have been studying with Elaine Sexton at the writing institute at Sarah Lawrence College for the past few years and I finally feel like I have a body of work that I can put out there in the world. As one of my fellow poets in the writing institute put it--it's time to become part of the dialogue . . .
