Carey's Story

Carey Eugene Redd, II, CAPP {Certified Administrator of Public Parking} is a first generation American-Jamaican born in Chicago, Illinois. He has been a long time resident of Connecticut, massed over forty-eight (48) years of corporate, entrepreneurial and professional experience in the public and private sectors providing a vision for strategic scope, project management, and customer service with fully integrated information management systems (IMS); telecommunications solutions for aerospace, oceanic, and surface defense systems; artificial intelligent, decisions support systems; chemical, financial, insurance, and manufacturing applications; parking operations; predictive modeling; and workforce planning and development as a consultant or employee for Fortune 500 companies and public servant in leadership roles while marketing financial, manufacturing system solutions in commercial and defense industries internationally. Mr. Redd is currently the Director/CEO of Transportation, Transit, and Parking for the New London Parking Authority in the City of New London, Connecticut. His responsibilities include the municipal parking system’s administration, economic development support, financial sustainability, property management, revenue generation and staff. He has amassed forty-six (46) years of corporate, entrepreneurial and professional experience in the public and private sectors providing fully integrated information management systems (IMS); telecommunications solutions for aerospace, oceanic, and surface defense systems; artificial intelligent decisions support systems; chemical, financial, insurance, and manufacturing applications; parking operations; project management; strategic predictive modeling; and workforce planning and development. Mr. Redd serves as a Transportation Officer on U. S. Senator Chris Murphy’s Transportation Advisory Council; Transportation Policy Committee, Gov. Ned Lamont, State of Connecticut; Transportation Committee, State of Connecticut Conference of Municipalities; Board Member, Southeast Council of Government, State of Connecticut; and Board Member, Past President, New England Parking Council; and Lifetime Member, West Indian Social Club of Hartford, Inc., Trustee, Connecticut Historical Society; and, Board Member of the Fund for Greater Hartford and Business, Industry, and Technology Advisory Council, Capital Community College. Mr. Redd holds Honorary Memberships in the Association of Peruvian Americans; Alianca Brasileira nos Estados Unidos, and Polish Club of Hartford, Sikh Cultural Society of America, Mr. Redd works with the Justice Department, ST of CT Labor Dept. Labor to provide internships for students attending the college and/or re-entering the job market, which has increased the number of young men and women that have established their families and businesses in the State of Connecticut. Mr. Redd was honored for his civic service with an Official Statement proclaiming February 15th, 2010 “Carey E. Redd Day” in the State of Connecticut by the past Governor, the Honorable Jodi Rell. Over the years, he has received numerous community service awards from State of Connecticut Treasurer Denise Nappier, Connecticut Chapter of the Men and Women of Justice (State Troopers), City of Hartford’s Administration, Greater Hartford Urban League, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the West Indian Social Club of Hartford. In September 2013, Mr. Redd was the recipient of the 100 Men of Color Award in the State of Connecticut. In 2002, Mr. Redd as Chairperson, Economic Development Committee, Caribbean American Elected Officials and Leaders (CAEOL), along with members of the organization, was invited to the Washington D.C. to discuss economic opportunities for Caribbean Island Nations with White House Officials that included representatives from the United States - State Department, Department of Commerce, and Department of Immigration and Naturalization which resulted in sustained increases in commercial exchange and medical funding for the Organization of American States (OAS). Mr. Redd continues to perform duties for the CAEOL and OAS in various capacities today. The International Parking Institute in cooperation with University of Virginia awarded Mr. Redd the designation of Certified Administrator of Public Parking (CAPP). He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration from Paul Quinn College, a historical black college located in Waco, Texas, where he co-founded the Black Panther Party Chapter during the Civil Rights era. Mr. Redd is a graduate of Digital Equipment Corporation “Efficacy Program” which afforded him an Executive Management from Harvard University School of Management Mr. Redd credits God, the Almighty Giver of strength and character, for his meager achievements and his upbringing that provided a solid secure foundation and philosophy for life and inspiration for ”The Redd-Flowers Foundation, a privately held not-for-profit. Mr. Redd resides in Hartford with his wife, Doreth “Dee” Flowers. His four adult children are Sharraine, Michael, McCoy, and Ian. Mr. Redd enjoys playing chess, reading, and listening to classical and jazz music. Mr. Redd is the Past Chairperson of the Economic Development Committee for the Caribbean American Elected Officials and Leaders (CAEOL).
