Carine's Story
Life
I was born on May 19, 1963. I grew up with the Alma family on Long Island and in NYC. I attended: (1) Stewart School (2) Garden City Junior High School and (3) Garden City High School. I attended Barnard College, where I majored in Biopsychology and aspired to minor in Women's Studies. I earned a B.A. in Biopsychology (Phi Beta Kappa) in 1985. In 1988, I started graduate school at SUNY Albany in the field of Neurobiology and Behavior. I earned an M.S. in Biology in 1990. I continued in the Biopsychology program at the University of Connecticut in 1990. In 1992, I earned my M.A. in Psychology with a concentration in Biopsychology. In the summer of 1992, I switched my focus to Cognition, specifically higher-order cognitive processes. In 1995, I earned my Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut in the area of Psychology with a focus on Cognition (Phi Beta Kappa). My dissertation is entitled: "The Role of Task and Conceptual Structure in Analogical Mapping and Retrieval Processes". After my Ph.D., I completed an M.D. at Harvard University. I was awarded the Neuroscience award for best performance in the course (Three straight scores of 100). I was also awarded the Best Practitioner award, for excellence in clinical practice.
