Carl's Story
Life
To bring anyone who reads this up to date:
I spent my freshmen and sophomore years at St. Bernard and then was thrown into public school once again for my junior year, where I dropped out after missing half a year because of health problems (Kidneys decided to stop working every now and then). I then submerged myself into the world of management at Hardee's and Sonic before I got fed up of not being able to make ends meet, and being a worthless loser who couldn't treat my girlfriend the way she deserved. Then everything went to hell when she broke off the engagement (if she ever even acknowledged that it was an engagement). After bouts of depression and a psychotic episode or two (The curb made fun of my car, I swear), my psychologist pretty much told me straight up, "This is the hole you dug yourself into." It was climb out, or be buried. The Army ended up being the best decision I ever made. I'm still middle management (Sergeant/E-5, though I'm promotable to E-6), but I have purpose and direction. I have reason.
I entered the communications business, working on everything from Single-Channel Radios to Information Systems. I was molded by the hardcore Infantry, hardened by the fires of Field Artillery, and energized by the motivation of the Signal Corps. IÂm on my third deployment outside the US. I have spent half of my military career away from my family....Expand for more
IÂd do it over again the same way to see the smiles IÂve brought to the faces of the children I've helped.
I met my wife, Samantha on one of my return trips back home, and 8 months later, we were married. I now have a blonde-haired and blue-eyed Son, as well as the usual assortment of pets(Dog, Bird, and Fish).
People who see my name will probably recall a tall, skinny, goofy guy. I'd hate to break it to them, but if you can imagine someone taking a Honda Civic and turning it into a Hummer H2, then you can figure out what the military did to me. I'm 6 ft 1in at a solid 210 pounds of country muscle.
I havn't left my geek side behind too far. It does come in handy when I have to gut systems or trace circuits. It will come in handy when I leave the military and jump into a 100,000 job without having to do cartwheels for scholarships or grants.
What I still have is my unwavering Integrity. Doing the right thing has always been a priority for me, and always will be. Making other people do the right thing... Now thats the best part of my job. Whether its down the barrel of my M4, or across my desk in my office, I will show anyone "what right looks like."
If I could pass on anything in this world, it would be the intensity and dedication I put into everything I do. Life is experiencing every moment and always without fail, fighting to make the world better.
