Carl's Story
Life
In the past 30 years or so, I have lived in Phoenix, AZ, Houston (The Woodlands), TX, and Atlanta, GA, metro areas. I have had a successful career as a research scientist/lab manager in the industry and academia for 22 years. In 2005, I left my company to return to SA to take care of my mother and her personal business. I am married to my wife Hope, and we have one son in high school. I am now partnered with Hope in her home-based jewelry sales business. For my health and enjoyment, I work out almost daily and currently play softball for one of the A&M teams in the San Antonio Alumni League where I made the All-League team twice. In my free time, I like to watch sports on TV, particularly whenever the SA Spurs play.
This is my 2023 update. I have moved twice in the SA area and now live in San Antonio. My wife of 37 years Hope retired from her jewelry business in 2017, and since then, we have had an active retirement life. Our travels include Alaska and Caribbean cruises, a New Zealand-Australia cruise, a western Mediterranean and trans-Atlantic cruise...Expand for more
and several stateside trips. This year, we will go on a British Isles/Western Europe cruise with another trans-Atlantic trip. I still play softball. When the SA Alumni League folded nine years ago, I started playing Senior Softball, which definitely extended my playing career. I not only play on a local team in the SA Senior Softball League, but also play on a traveling tournament team based in the DFW area. For six years, I played for the Texas Legends 60's, which won the World Championship in 2020. Outside of softball, I currently serve as a construction volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, building houses in the Kerrville area for the last seven years. Hope and I serve as deacons for our church, and Hope has served for Community Bible Study for over 25 years. Our son Christian, a 2014 UT-Austin graduate, has become an accomplished guitar player and songwriter. After living in California for four years, he is now in Austin, working for a publishing company. No grandchildren yet, but we have our dogs at home: black lab Duncan (4) and Shih-Tzu Lucy (13).
