Carla's Story
School
High School was a happy time, although I was kind-of quiet & shy. I liked being an individual. I didn't really fit into any click, but mostly got along with everybody. I was in Choir, Drama, Home Ec. & Bible club. Drama was my favorite, but I was only involved in the Video show & the Wizard if Oz. I was suppose to graduate in 1985, but took extra classes and graduated early. I dated Derek Sliger & Tom Welchance during High School. Derek eventually married my best friend, Tina. We're still good friends & they're doing well. I ran into Tom in town a few weeks ago. He looked great & sounded happy, just recently moved back to TN.
College
I'm only 7 classes away from earning my Deaf Interpreting degree. Hurray! It's been slow as life keeps me busy & conflicts in class scheduling, but even...Expand for more
tually I will succeed!!! ...I attended MTSU for 2 semesters (general studies). I attended Trevecca Nazarene University for 2 semesters (general studies, special ed, deaf ed, Bible). I've attended Nashville State Community College, now called Nashville State Tech, part-time for 2 semesters (deaf ed) & full-time for 2 semesters (deaf ed).
Workplace
Since Aug 2007, I work as an Interpreter for the Deaf in Franklin TN's school system. Before that I was an at-home-Mommy -AND- we owned & worked Lighthouse Lawncare & Landscaping serving Rutherford County, TN from 1998-2006. I also interpret for the Deaf thru our church, Teach Sign Language & sometimes freelance as a side job. I love signing.
Military
I did try to join the AirForce shortly after High School, but was rejected because of asthma.
