Carlos's Story
Life
Where do I start? Well, after graduation, I joined the Army and learned various skills. I got off active duty, met a girl, got married and started a family. Then I became a cop in L.A. with the Sheriffs and decided I missed the Army enough to play at it once a month in the Guard. I still do all of the above and somehow manage to have fun too ;-)
Workplace
Driving a black and white around someof the less friendly places in L.A. county. After of course working the jails and meeting some of the more model citizens our society has produced such as Richard Ramirez, the Menendez brothers, Rick James, etc... And a wonderful eye opener of the 92 Riots as a rookie street cop. And the adventure has continued with the usual ups and downs. But it's all good. its beenover 23 years now and retirement is no longer a distant goal, but now a nearing reality. I am on the downhill leg of a long journey. Scary how fast the years fly by...

gh the Ft Benning finishing school for men where I learned the skills of the Infantryman, I was stationed at the lovely Ft Polk, LA for the rest of my active duty tour. I deployed from there to Europe and to NTC (also known as Ft Irwin). My service in the Guard in later years sent me to Airborne school and I have served in Mech Infantry, Special Forces, and Long Range Surveillence units. I have deployed to Germany 2 more times, Japan once, and Ft Cahffee AR, as well as Coronado Isalnd/Camp Pendleton, on training exercises with the Guard units I have been assigned to. Since 9/11 my current unit was mobilized in Oct 2004 and deployed to the Balkans on a real world mission. In Feb 2007, after nearly 24 years ofservice to Uncle Sam I popped smoke and retired. One of the hardest things I ever did was to leave what was so in my blood. I do miss it so. But all that Hooah stuff takes a toll on the body and family and it was time to let younger guys fill my role.
