Carol's Story
Life:
I returned to Michigan (November 2017), to live at home with Mom. I am a member of the part-time faculty at Montcalm Community College.
- Graduated Central Michigan University in 1976 - Spanish Major, Math Minor; Taught Spanish & Math for 3 years in Waldron, MI. Master's Degree, Adrian College, 1981, Bilingual Education.
- Moved to Colorado in 1979; Taught for 1 1/2 years, then moved to the corporate sector for 20+ years - Admin. assistant, contracts manager, & new accounts coordinator, for several different companies; & in 2001, a part-time admin. for NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory) Energy Analysis Office in Golden, CO, assisting manager with some of his research in renewable energy. Taught Spanish at Westminster High School 2001-2003, Westminster, CO; then K-8 Spanish and English as a Second Language at Belle Creek Charter School from 2004-2005; from 2005-2008, taught Spanish at Adams City High School in Commerce City, CO; from 2008-2009, taught Spanish at Heritage High School in Littleton, CO; from August 2009-May 2010, taught ESL and 7th-grade Spanish at Global Village Academy in Aurora; and from September 2010-May 2011, taught Spanish at Arvada West High School in Arvada, CO. I substitute taught at Denver School of Science & Technology and taught an online credit recovery course for Arvada West High School from 2011-2012.
- Moved to Cortez, Colorado (August 2012) to teach Middle School Spanish and 6th grade Introduction to World Languages (2012-2014). I lived in Colorado from 1979-2015.
- Moved to Highland, Kansas (August 2015), where I taught College Spanish and Intermediate Algebra at Highland Community College. I lived in Kansas from 2015-2017..

ruction, & Assessment, through Walden, University, and attended graduation in January 2015. In July 2015, I presented the results from my dissertation study at the American Association of Teachers of Spanish & Portuguese Conference in Denver, Colorado.
- Daughter Michele graduated in May 2008 from a Catholic high school. She graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver in May 2012, with a B.A. in English (concentration in Writing) and a Linguistics Minor, attended the University of Denver Publishing Institute that summer. In 2013, she started working for Western Paper Distributors, then began working on her Master of Fine Arts in Writing through Vermont College of Fine Arts in July 2014. She earned her MFA in July 2016. She has a passion for writing and dance. She also taught dance and worked part time while an undergrad.
- I have cantored at church for 30+ years (lead singing at mass), in Colorado, about a year and a half in Kansas, and now, here in Edmore. I like Colorado, love the mountains, but missed Michigan's autumn. The "Changing of the Aspen" can not compare with the Fall colors in Michigan! In Kansas, I missed the Colorado mountains, but enjoyed the Fall colors and weather! Since I completed my Ph.D. studies, I have a little spare time to study our family genealogy and read for pleasure. Oh, I adopted a cat, Dixie, in December 2014. She was 11 at the time, and is white & black. She moved with me to Kansas the end of August (2015) and to Michigan with me in November (2017). Daughter Michele is still in Denver.... I thought eight hours from Cortez to Denver was a long drive. The drive was about 12 hours from Highland, Kansas to Denver. Now in Michigan, I've added yet another 14 hours to the trip by car! The trip is easier, and shorter, by train or plane.
