Carol's Story
I bought a 2-story house in the North Georgia Mountains in November 2016 and rescued a 3 year old Pomeranian in December. The house has an outbuilding that is becoming a Genealogy Research Center. I bought a used 2004 Aliner Sportliner last July to camp in. Not much camping until a bit of landscaping is complete. My daughter and family live in Daphne, AL. (2 of hers are married, oldest son made her a grandmother 3 times.) Son and family live in Murfreesboro, TN. (His oldest is married.)

Life
Since SPHS graduation: Anne Arundel CC, then Auburn U. **Would have been class of 1967 but did not stay to graduate.** Married in 1965, 2 kids 1967 & 1968, divorced, 1974. Finished college Auburn U. at Montgomery, AL 1976. Worked for State of AL as Social Worker 1979-89. Quit. Got job with State of GA 1992-2006 as DFCS Caseworker. Retired 10/1/2006 after 14 years with the Medicaid Outreach Project. Kids in AL & TN married. They produced 7 grandchildren and I have a greatgrandson and another baby due next March. Traveled to Italy 2001. I had moved to North GA to be near the Appalachian Trail in 1998. In February 2011, I moved to Lower Alabama, then in mid-May 2012, I moved to Middle Tennessee. I got my second wind and attempted to hike half of the Appalachian Trail in 2013, but a knee injury sidelined my attempt after 41.6 miles. The story is on my blog called "Chasing the Trail."
I moved back to the North Georgia area in mid July 2013 and am living in a Mountain Cabin. I kayak in nearby lakes and help out on the 'ranch' where I live by tending to the horse and pony. I regularly visit with my Mom who lives in an Erickson Retirement Community in Catonsville, MD [Dad died in 2012 and is buried at the Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD] and visit with my brother [SPHS grad] and his family. My 'favorite' place to vacation is Dauphin Island Beach, AL.

to jog my memory. Goldwater Girl. Catching the bus to Peabody Institute (never learned piano). Catching bus to Annapolis & D.C. just to walk around. Life was a lot simpler then, wasn't it? I occasionally visit our Chorus teacher and Matron of Honor [from my marriage to H D Rathjen 1965-1974] who still lives in Centreville, MD.
College
1963 Auburn U., AL. Dorm life and a roommate named "Menine." Will always recall where I was when JFK was killed. 1964 Anne Arundel Comm. Col. commute, card games between classes. 1975 Auburn U.at Montgomery, Montgomery, AL., when it was a commuter college; received my degree in Elementary Education, June 1976. It's hard to make a lot of friends when you commute to an evening college. Haven't a clue who else graduated with me in June 1976. **Would love to reconnect with classmates from AU, A2C2, and AUM.**
Family: I have two fantastic children. My Daughter graduated from Auburn University [AL] in 1992 and married her college sweetheart, Auburn class of 1994. She has four children, they have three. Her oldest son is a Sgt in the Army, is married and made her a Grandmother in 2012 and 2014. Their daughter enlisted in the Navy in 2012 and is now honorably discharged as of 2016.. She married in August 2014, to another Sailor. Their son is in 10th grade and takes High School classes on the Internet and attends a local Community College, as well. Their baby boy is 5 and was an Uncle at the age of 1 year.
My Son married after High School and he and his wife have three children. Their son also enlisted in the Navy and is a submariner stationed in Hawaii who recently married. Their older daughter is a Senior at University of TN at Martin. Their younger daughter is graduates from High School this May.
My Dad died in July 2012. My Mom died in January 2016.
Hobbies include Exercising at BodypleX, Hiking, Kayaking, Car Camping, Genealogy, Collecting and Reading old History textbooks, and working with my neighbor and best friend tending to her horse and pony.
