Carol Dyck:  

After graduating from Morden Collegiate in 1964, I attended Manitoba Teachers College and for two years taught elementary school in Steinbach, Manitoba. That was an experience. I thought I had grown up in a Mennonite community and then I moved to Steinbach... now that was MENNONITE! I married in 1969 and taught another year in Steinbach with a non-Mennonite name. What was an unfortunate experience. Moved to Calgary where my first son was born in 1971 and second son was born in 1973. Since then I have been an editor with a daily newspaper, a reporter for radio and print and a freelance journalist and photographer. In 1989 I joined the not so civil service in British Columbia and retired in 2001. Since retiring I have owned two businesses, both of which I started--one a wedding planning and decor business which I sold in 2005 and a home staging business which I started in 2007 and sold in the fall of 2010. I have two grandchildren. Along the way I was divorced, remarried, widowed, remarried and then widowed again in 2006. None of those are experiences I want to repeat anytime soon.
