Carol's Story
After high school graduation, attended Ohio State, graduating with B.A. in English in 1968. Married in 1969. 2 sons, born in 1972 & 1977. Divorced in 1981.
Worked from '68-80 for Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission, the state agency that provides services to mentally and physically disabled persons. I was in administration, beginning as a technical writer and ending up as manager of a small staff in department that wrote and produced documentation in the agency's casework policy manual. Loved this job and (sometimes) regret I ever left. (I would be able to retire with a good pension, which as a self-employed person I do not have!)
Following divorce, worked a series of temporary jobs in a variety of settings for many years - health insurance, property and casualty insurance, real estate appraisal, financial consulting, non-profits, church office, etc. Also worked from home as free-lance documentation writer and word processing service provider. All this from '80-'91.
In 1991 entered grad school at Univ. of Dayton's Columbus branch at Capital Univ. Graduated in 1994 with an M.S.Ed. degree in counseling. Worked in a private practice in Arlington for one year & then established solo practice in Clintonville in 1995. Have now been doing that for 17 years. Concurrently worked part-time at N. Central Community Mental Health Center in the Short North from 1995-2000. Worked in Emergency Services/Urgent Care/Intake dept. Learned a lot, loved my work group - very challenging and rewarding treating the severely...Expand for more
mentally ill.
In 2000 I established a private practice in Zanesville, one day/week. In 2009 the group practice closed & our entire staff became employed at a new clinic for low income persons, the Muskingum Valley Health Center. Once again, I was honored to serve those who would otherwise not have had access to health care. Also once again loved my work group. After driving to Zanesville 1 day/wk. for 11 years I resigned at the end of 2011. Miss my group so much, & it broke my heart to say good-bye to my clients, many of whom were very disappointed & hurt.
I am very fortunate to have found my true career path in my midlife. Being a psychotherapist is the most rewarding profession I could ever hope for.
I remarried in 1998, I feel very blessed to have found the love of my life. My older son Adam is now in wholesale carpet & flooring sales. He has been successful in this field for many years. He has a 4 1/2 year old son, Cameron, my 1st & only (to date) grandchild - the light of our lives. He is still in Columbus so fortunately we can see Cameron very frequently. My younger son Ryan graduated from Miami Univ. in Oxford with a B.S. in business administration in 2000, & earned his Executive MBA from the Univ. of Florida in 2011. He resides in Orlando with his wife of 2 years, and has a very successful career path in an international corporation.
I have owned my beloved home in Clintonville for 41 years. My marriage, my family life, and my profession are offering me deep fulfillment & I am grateful every day.
