Carol's Story

After graduation I couldn't wait to get away from Harrisburg. I attended American University for a year & decided to stay in the DC area indefinely. In 1966 I married someone from Hyattsville, MD. Our son Doug was born in 1966 & I was happily settled as a housewife in Prince Georges County. When my marriage broke up in 1974, I moved back here, not intending to stay. I had vague plans to start over again somewhere in the West, but found that Harrisburg wasn't so bad after all. The cultural level was elevated during those 10 years I was away with the addition of HACC & Penn State. I worked at Capital Blue Cross for a number of years & fell in love with life in southcentral PA. In 1988 I married Bob Eagle, a Harrisburg native 16 years my senior. I have adjusted to being an East Shore person, happily living here in Colonial Park. Since Bob's death on 4/24/06, I have been busy reinventing myself. I had to do that before when my 1st marriage broke up in '74, so at least I have ...Expand for more
experience along those lines. Wisdom comes with age (or at least it should), so it's a little easier this time. I semi retired from Ecumenical Retirement Communities, where I worked as a med tech for 18 1/2 years in 2012 & fully retired in 2013, In 2016 I began working part time for Home Instead until March 2022 when my main client passed away. I have loved being retired & participating in many church & community activites notably Red Hat Society, sewing & knitting for charity & taking non credit courses at Messiah Lifeways. I have had plenty of opportunity to travel mainly thru Road Scholar & met my longtime goal of visiting all 50 states when I got to Alaska in 2013. Unfortunately arthritis & other mobility issues have put a damper on that this past year. I have been in physical therapy twice, take yoga class twice weekly, have monthly deep tissue massages & exercise regularly both at home & the gym. Otherwise my health is good, but I'm finding growing old is no fun!

I like that the Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank now lets me know where my blood was sent. Good to know it was used for someone & not discarded.

Fun with my yoga friends today at our gym's annual Christmas lunch for us senior members. We were treated so well with delicious food in abundance. We all went home with enough for another meal.
Fun day with some friends. After lunch at Katie's Kitchen near Lancaster, we enjoyed seeing "Moses" at Sight & Sound. As usual it was quite moving, especially the Passover scene with an angel flying above the audience. W
I got a little wet but it was worth it. This was a double rainbow although that doesn't show up so well.
