Carol's Story
Life
Carol Keefer never made an issue of her ethnic background when she attended Blue Valley High School, but that fluid identity between the maternal, indigenous or native, North American ancestry, and the paternal, immigrant, German-American ancestry in her background consistently led her towards diversity and pluralism in her associations. During Carol's junior and senior years in high school, the cosmopolitan and internationalist developed. She met many college international students, including some youth of the political elite in Yemen, who introduced to their country the idea that females in Yemen should have access to education in their social structure of mosques. Girls did gain access to education there in 1986, but Yemen is a poor country with many traditionalists who are suspicious of modern development, so they have far to go to reach equality between the sexes. Carol only went to college for a year or two then, without graduating. The golf and piano lessons of youth evolved into Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and therapy sessions as an adult. She returned to college when she was thirty years old. Now, Carol resides in Denver, Colorado with an A.A.S. in Human Services and a B.A. in Women's Studies. Although she doesn't own a home or even a car, she has acquired an extensive personal library to feed her inquiry into the history of ideas; e.g., the evolution of political philosophy and international relations, modern diplomacy and warfare, world literature, feminist theory and feminist jurisprudence, American government and interracial and multicultural American history.
Carol has always loved books and still dreams of becoming a published writer herself. She has had a few individual poems published in England, Canada, and the United States, but has not yet developed the focus and self-discipline to write a whole book of poetry. That could be forthcoming in her lifetime.
