Carol's Story
FMHS Class of 1964; Graduated from Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in 1967. Worked in the operating room at PH for 7 years and then became a Private Scrub Nurse for three physicians in Charlotte for 5 years. Decided I needed a change so traveled as a Risk Management Consultant from 1979-1981. Hired as the Supervisor of Surgical Services at Union Memorial, Monroe, NC (now it is CMC-Union) in 1981 to help design and build a new hospital. Moved into the new facility in 1985. My parents were originally from Pageland, SC so helping to build a new facility for "family" use was important to me. Recruited in 1988 by Mercy Hospital, Charlotte, NC to be the Director of Surgical Services. Mercy Hospital became part of Carolinas Healthcare System in 1995 and changed the name to CMC-Mercy. I had the opportunity to be the Clinical Project Manager overseeing a 100 million dollar expansion in 2010-2011 which is a "manager's dream" to design all new "state of the art" areas!! Also, just prior to retirement I served on a corporate design team for the hospital that CHS was hoping to build in Fort Mill....Expand for more
Retired from CMC-Mercy after 24 years on Sept. 1, 2012. Retirement was my birthday gift to myself!!
My husband Phil and I have been married for 38 years and we have one daughter, Cassie who is 35 years old. She got married Sept. 2, 2018. Phil is also retired so we are relaxing and enjoying life together. Cassie is an Esthetician in Charlotte, NC so I get to visit her often for wonderful skin care treatments!! The 'ole aging skin appreciates all the help it can get!! I still love Carolina Beach Music which my daughter listened to so much growing up, she enjoys it too!! Phil and I are sports fans, especially the Carolina Panthers & the Atlanta Braves. We both played softball for many years in a Charlotte league & then I later played on a church league where we won the championship!! Phil actually coached our Charlotte league team a few years where we won the championship in our division. Those were the good 'ole days when the body was much younger!! We are both really active in our church and do a lot of projects that are needed. Life has been good to us and we feel truly blessed.
