Carol's Story
Life
1968 graduate of Cal Poly, Pomona. Literature/Language, Music minor. Taught 6th-8th grades in Placerville and San Diego. Worked several years in printing and publishing as a paste-up and lay-out artist, then the process camera dept. Married March 1980, widowed Dec. 1988. A very special, if brief, marriage brought many rewards. As a sideline we did wedding photography and family portraits in an informal, photojournalistic style.
Was a full-time mom to Katie for 13 years. She is now 22 and in the process of divorcing, working almost full-time as a server at a local casino's buffet. She is the mother of Emily Rose, 3, and a joy. They lived with me for a year and a half before moving into their own place Sept. 2008. I still get Emily a few nights a week. Being a grandma is tons of fun! Katie hopes to become a firefighter/EMT/helicopter pilot. Apparently adrenalin is her drug of choice.... I've missed teaching at times but things are so much worse now that I find myself glad to be away from it. st somehow, some way.
Worked part-time at a friend's wholesale perennial nursery 9 years and enjoyed the stress-free atmostphere but was recently laid off due to the lousy economy and my limited time. My main job for 6 1/2 years is at the public library and I also sell used books on Amazon.com. (Look for Dog-Eared Pages.) Recently started doing some secretarial work for a dear Irish priest, almost 90, at the beautiful rural retreat center he founded. Reader for church as well as musician (voice and percussion); help friends with proofreading and newsletter production; volunteer at a community kitchen; and take care of my Emily as much as possible. I organized a book cart drill team 3 years ago and we have performed in 5 parades, taking first prize our first time out. Last year I put together a spelling team for the first annual all-adult spelling bee that benefited the Boys & Girls Club, and we took second. The word we missed was "ensorcell." Look it up.
I've found an old friend from 2nd grade and Brownies here, and some of my former students, and lots of old (I use the term loosely) pals on Classmates.com.
