Carol's Story
Life
Did one semester at Drexel University, dropped out and worked for a year as a receptionist in an employment agency, then enrolled at Moore College of Art, majoring in Photography. Moved to New York City after graduation and worked on an animated film and as a paste-up mechanical artist. Took a paralegal course because I thought I wasn't smart enough for law school; got a job with a Rockefeller Center law firm and after a couple of months I concluded I was as smart, if not smarter, than some of the attorneys, so I went to Brooklyn Law School at night, working in the office of the General Counsel for the Museum of Modern Art during the day. Worked as an attorney for the City of New York Department of General Services, and then the Department of Homeless Services. For the past 10 years I have been at the Research Foundation of CUNY, which administers grants on behalf of all of the colleges in the City University of New York system.
I've done some poetry slams, had stories published in four anthologies--Best Lesb...Expand for more
ian Erotica 1999--oh, BTW, I came out as a lesbian in the early '90s--big surprise, huh?--Best Lesbian Erotica 2003, Shadows of the Night: Queer Tales of the Uncanny and Unusual, and Back to Basics: A Butch/Femme Anthology. I've finished one novel, Fool's Mushroom, a tale of unrequited love and lust, with dyke drama, drag queen wisdom and the frustration of being in a relationship without having a date for New Year's Eve. I almost got it published (long story) but now I have to find another taker; hopefully I will. Meanwhile, I'm working on my second novel, Birds Do It, a parody of a lesbian romance novel.
Still single (gay or straight, some things never change) and no kids, but the requisite cats--2 tuxedo sisters, Tessa and Miriya.
I've been living in a studio apartment on the upper west side since 1976 and would love to have a bedroom and my own washer/dryer before I die. My dream is to live in a small cabin in the woods and to be the weird old woman that all the village children are just a little afraid of.
