Carol's Story

“I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance Never settle for the path of least resistance” New photo out in deployed to California at the Pacific Ocean North working in disaster zones.. 3/2023 I decided to take out some time to write before the next hurricane season or disaster consumes my time…… I like to write in the moment to share real life experiences, not fluff, imagined perfect life scenarios, and exaggeration which normally happens on social networking. Parent experiencing a painful loss of a child 2019. This happened while I was deployed in the horrific Alabama tornadoes. Six tornadoes ripped through the state: Two EF1s in Washington County, an EF1 in Macon County, and EF2 and an EF1 in Barbour County and the storm in Lee County, which was given preliminary rating of EF4 ( 166-200 mph gusts). I was standing on a hill in the tornado disaster zone at 7:30 PM observing the devastating site where a complete family with 5 small children was wiped out and killed. I could see the baby crib and small toys all over the site. I had a feeling of such sadness come over me at that moment. It felt like overwhelming grief. The next day I found out my son had died at that time. God speaks in mysterious ways. Listen and you will hear. The parallel here is that all life is precious. Love your children. It’s not easy to get over my sons death (really painful days sometimes), but his father is with him now to sort out and rebuild the relationship they never had the many and last years of his life. A sliver of closure. The Griefshare program is helpful and purposeful. If you ever suffer from a loss, look this program up. It is offered at many local churches. Graduated from college 12/15/2018. Yes, a$$ backwards compared to my schoolmates, but inspiring to attend college with smart young minds and be educated in the current technology/science. Completed final paper on a library computer while working 17 hour days in Paradise, California Camp Fire disaster. This was extremely difficult to say the least. It was like a war zone with so much smoke, grief, and displacement of thousands of people. I never cried so much in my life with disaster ...Expand for more
survivors. Compassion and empathy are a comfort to the many who suffer. Open your eyes and you can see it everywhere. Help someone through hard times. 2019-Deployed in Alabama, Oklahoma, Missouri, and South Dakota to perform massive outreach to the farmers and flooded survivors of middle America. Deployed in Hurricane Dorian and led a team through Atlanta to Florida, and back to North Carolina. Thank God this ended up missing most of the U.S. 1st task force led team into the Paradise, CA disaster, South Carolina Hurricane Florence, the 13 Alabama tornadoes disaster, Hurricane Irma/Maria, and Texas for Hurricane Harvey disaster. While deployed at Hurricane Irma recovery, leading a team in inner city Miami and making a difference. Living my dream of helping and working in the largest humanitarian efforts in US history. Making a difference in the world and worth every dam# minute of it. Leading a purpose driven life that God leads us into makes us complete. Occupation: FEMA Public Assistance Program Delivery Manager/FQS Coach Evaluator 2021-current (project manager for disaster infrastructure/cities and counties) FEMA DSA Reservist FQS Coach Evaluator & Crew Lead Candidate. . Former District 9ER WEST United States Coast Guard AUX Assistant Diversity Officer. **Current Ohio Western and Eastern Region United Methodist UMCOR disaster team (between FEMA deployments). After retirement, this will be my primary objective. So much has happened in my life to be humbled. Don't ever think that you are too old to accomplish anything. The world is full of possibilities to make it a better place. Use this wisely and help others up the hill while you climb. There is plenty to do out here. Count your blessings. Pay it forward. Pray for these times. They will get more difficult. Attention: This is the only social networking that I attempt to fit into my life. If you didn’t like me in high school so what. Classmates need to develop keywords for bullies, pretentious and other people that had bad behavior in high school so we can add to their profile.
