Carol's Story
Life
I received my BA from BYU in 1970, my MA from U of Iowa in 2003. I had grandchildren attend my graduation from University of Iowa.
I moved to Iowa in 1974 and have lived here since except for a year and a half in a small town in western Minnesota. It was so rural where we lived in Minnesota that there were more than 200 times more lakes in our county than there were stoplights. (200+ lakes, one stoplight) If someone told you to go jump in a lake, there was always one within walking distance. But where I live in Iowa we have stoplights and you can actually buy a pair of shoes without traveling to the next county and we only have 3 lakes in this county. t place to raise my children. The midwestern family values are as stable as they are rumored to be. Unlike what I believed as a child growing up in Utah, it is not flat and ugly here. It can be quite hilly and the hard wood forests that grow all around are very beautiful. I love the beauty of the mist rising over the rolling corn fields, horses and cattle crazing, and red barns that I pass on my way to work each morning. I have learned that lack of mountains do not necessarily equal lack of beauty.
I'm now teaching special education in a middle school just outside of the city I live in. I have 9 children and 10 grandchildren. And of course, my grandchildren are more intelligent and more beautiful than any other children!
