Carolyn's Story
********************************************************************************************************
My elementary school in Chicago was Mt. Greenwood. In 1955 we moved to Southern California when I was in the 4th grade. We lived in Pasadena when we got there, but moved to Azusa where I went to 5th & 6th grade. In 1957 my father's job was moved to the San Francisco Peninsula in San Mateo County.. My parents & I moved to San Mateo. I attended College Park Jr. High for 7th & 8th grade. I started San Mateo H.S. in the fall of 1959. When Aragon H.S. was built, a number of us were required to leave SMHS in the middle of our sophomore year. We were to be the first graduating class at Aragon in 1963. Got my driver's license. Cruised up & down El Camino with so many other kids. Gas was cheap so we could drive for hours. Since a couple of my very best friends were still at SMHS, I was able to take advantage of an opportunity to return there for my senior year. My senior year was a wonderful time in my life. We all got to do a lot of fun things. Our graduation & Grad-night were like the frosting on our cake. I'm one of those who would go back to relive my school days & hopefully make wiser choices.
Then it was out into the real world. I took some classes at CSM, but decided to look into an airline career. I began work in customer service for Pacific Airlines in June 1965. Over the years the company merged or was bought by different air carriers. I held the same job, but worked for Pacific Airlines then AirWest. Howard Hughes bought us & we became Hughes ...Expand for more
AirWest. Next was Republic followed by Northwest. Today it is Delta. I started at 19 & retired 40 years later. I got to see some wonderful places around the world despite suffering major motion sickness since I was a small child. I moved to San Carlos in 1978. Never lived outside San Mateo County since 1957. One county. Same job. I'm not boring...I'm just very stable, right? I've remained friends with many of my classmates & always enjoy hearing from them. I always look forward to our reunions to see & meet with nice people. I have one daughter and one grandson. Been in my same house for 41 years. Love my tiny little home I share with my pet cats. Good company for me. In the 70's I used to love to go to Mexico often & once drove by myself from San Mateo to Mexico City in a brand new car. Didn't scare me then, but would never do it today. Started going to Hawaii in the late 60's which I continue to do. Always good to do something different than your every day routine. Helps keep life interesting.
I have seen many old friends at the previous SMHS reunions and loved seeing even more at the most current one.. Luetta Mankins-Johnson organized the 50th. She also got some of us together on several other occasions. Renée Leap was the chairperson for the 55th. Hopefully we will all enjoy the 60th. Will continue to post any updates.
If you have any questions that I can help provide information about, please contact me. I will try to monitor any that come in. Thanks for reading my version of War and Peace or some other long novel. Wishing you the very best.
