Carrie's Story
Life
Life has been bumpy since high school. I went to work immediately after graduating, which slowed down my progress with college. I also met the man I eventually married only 2 months after high school, so that's kept me busy for all my adult life so far.
We've even owned property (a multi-family, so we were landlords for two years) but we sold it in December 2003 to return to the simpler life.
2005 brought us our first child, and our second arrived in 2007. I also quit my job in 2007 to stay home with the kids. It wasn't an easy decision. Staying home is actually the hardest job I've ever had.
2008 was a stressful year with many trials and tribulations. But I know I am a stronger and better person for it.
The next step? Who knows... Everything changes in the blink of an eye; nobody knows what tomorrow will bring. I'm just focusing on being happy with the here and now, and I'll worry about tomorrow another day.
College
It has taken me a long time to get to where I want to be for school. I had to work full time immediately after getting out of high school because I didn't go away to college. It took me four years to obtain my Associates from NCCC. Then I took some time off again because I wasn't exactly sure which field I wanted to pursue.
In August 2003, however, I went back to college to work on a B.A. in English (with a minor in Hist...Expand for more
ory) at good old UCONN. I took another hiatus when we decided in 2004 that it was time to start a family.
In August 2008, I was officially re-admitted to UCONN for the Fall 2008 semester to continue pursuing my B.A. in English on a part-time basis! Starting with the Fall 2009 semester, I will be a full-time student. I should complete my degree by 2011, at which time I hope I will be able to enter the Masters in Education with Certification program through UCONN. The plan, right now, is to eventually teach secondary level English. Although I wouldn't mind being a published author instead.
Workplace
Since high school, I've worked at a couple of gas stations, White Flower Farm Inc., as a notetaker for the deaf department at Northwestern Connecticut Community College, and even as a baker's assistant at Bantam Bread. In October 1998, I started working for the City of Torrington in the Assessor's Office. I stayed there for nearly 8.5 years before deciding to give it all up and become a SAHM. So my primary "job" these days is "mommy" to our 2 beautiful children, though I did work part time at Ski Sundown as well in Loss Prevention. I tried for 4 months to get back into full-time work but after being out of the game for 18 months, it was hard to get a job again. So I went back to school and I sell Wildtree Herbs on the side to bring in a little bit of money.
